Put the crib at a lower setting and now I am worried it is actually less safe for DS - is there anything I can do about this? Edited to ask another q...

So DS has been trying to climb up in his crib so I figured it was time to lower it. But now, with the mattress lower - even with the bumper on there is a lot of "railing" space before the top - now when he rolls back and forth as he pushes up he is actually hitting his head above the bumpers on the bars and it makes a banging sound AND, he is pushing down the bumpers and sticking his arms through the slats Chat Icon Before - the bumper over the mattress went all the way to the top of the railing almost so this wasn't happening - any suggestions? Maybe I have it set up wrong? I've tied the bumper pretty tight but it doesn't seem to matter.

ETA: FOr all those that suggested removing the bumpers I am confused - how will this make it better? Won't it be worse b/c then every time DS bumps his head on the sides of the crib he will be banging against the wood - not just when he hits the top?

The same thing happened when we lowered our crib. I think it's just par for the course. As we lowered the crib more and more (it's now at it's lowest point) Troy would push down the bumpers and try to hug them with his legs! He also started sleeping RIGHT up against it, so it was then that we took out the regular bumpers and put in the breathable one. He does have little bumps into the slats here and there (as this bumper is thinner), but he doesn't seem to complain or even be bothered.

Can't help you either....we lowered to middle setting about a month ago & she's lately been pushing up on the bars & keeps slipping. Tonight she fell back & banged her head hard against the bars. She also pushes down the bumpers & lately has been biting Chat Icon the railiing.

DH is lowering to the lowest setting tomorrow, but I don't see that really helping matters, (it will be safer though now that she's trying to stand).

that's another thing i forgot to mention! the biting!!! Chat Icon

im afraid he is going to wind up with bumps on his head! the railings should have padding for the parts above the bumpers!!

When we lowered the crib we took out the bumpers for the same reasons.

DC's also sleep in sleep sacs which make it very difficult to stand in the cribChat Icon

We just don't use a bumper.

Ok wait, but doesn't not using a bumper make it WORSE? Then every time he rolls into the side of the crib he will hit is head right on the wood?

Babies will hit their heads. I dont think that the hit will really cause major injury or damage to the brain. Its part of the growing process. the sound probably hurts you more than it actually hurts your DC. I lowered DD bed and took out the bumpers for months now and she hasnt had any problems.
