Re: bringing food to a party: would you think this is rude?

Yea rude. Not a big deal if there were 2 of the sane dessert brought or if she took one out for herself to make sure she got it.

Re: bringing food to a party: would you think this is rude?

My mom does this sometimes and it drives me crazy. I dont see anything wrong with cutting a slice or putting some cookies or something extra on the side for the host but seriously not to serve it at all? I didnt make it for you I made it for everyone. Same goes for something you bought.

My mom sees nothing wrong with it so now I dont tell her what I bring for dessert until it's time for dessert and put it out myself. So yes I think it's kinda rude.

Does this remind anyone of the "marble rye" in Seinfeld? George's parents bring it to Susan's parents' for dinner, but they never put it out so Mr. Costanza takes it back home. George is all mortified and wants to buy a new one to put it back and sends Jerry to get one (and he steals it from that old lady) and then...

Anyway, I wouldn't think to much about it, but yeah, I'd think it was weird.

Re: bringing food to a party: would you think this is rude?

Rude, tacky, and cheap. can't she just buy her own cupcakes!??

ETA- I meant buy her own for another day. Obviously the ones you brought were for the party since she asked!

If she kept one or two aside for herself to enjoy the next day I wouldn't have a problem with it, but to not put any out is rude.

Agreed.

Rude.
I would have mentioned it to her at dessert time. Even jokingly, "Hey...where are my cupcakes??!"

Exactly!

I think its rude only because she asked you to bring dessert but I can see holding stuff back if a host ends up with too many, I once had a smallish family party where there were actually more desserts then people...I just couldn't open everything because most of it would go to waste.

I have to agree with everyone...it is rude of her because they weren't meant for her alone they were for everyone. If she really needed to have one (which I can't blame her because they are yummy) I would have taken one for myself and put the rest out for everyone as long as there was enough for everyone to enjoy.

I would have thought she was joking, how many did you bring? She could have kept one or two for herself and put the rest out...

agreed.... I could see keeping one or two aside but not withholding the whole thing...... I do try and bring desserts which I eat and dh will eat. ( dh can not eat dairy so he's restricted from alot of the desserts), so yeah I'd be a little ticked if someone withheld my cupcakes...

eta- stuff never goes to waste with our parties. I open everything up. When the party is over I save a little of the stuff I want, and send everyone else home with samplers of desserts leftover. If I love something I cut myself a larger leftover piece.

Seriously I love cupcakes and would have said~ hey I love Crumbs too and was looking forward to having one! Chat Icon

My SIL does the funniest thing with desserts at her house. I will bring a delicious all chocolate cake, because we both love chocolate, and she will wrap up all the 'other' desserts when the party is over and send them with me, but she keeps the rest of the chocolate cake I brought all for herself!

I am thinking hey I don't want all the gross desserts for my kids, we want chocolate! lol
