Question about age for having children
I had my first at 34 and my second at 36.
I don't think my school had gifted programs - I was in accelerated/honors programs.
Highest level of education - MBA.

Re: Question about age for having children
No, I was expecting my first at 32. She was born after I turned 33. I had my second at 35.
ETA: I have a bachelors degree and I was in the gifted program when I was in elementary/junior high school.

Re: Question about age for having children
I already had two kids by 31 and a third after that age. No gifted program (didn't exist in my school district), and I have a doctorate (Ed.D.).

Are we calling honors classes/AP as gifted or strictly "gifted programs"?
I'm curious about this as well. By definition, shouldn't the gifted and talented pool be fairly small? It doesn't make sense that most people are gifted and talented. UNLESS, there happens to be a strong correlation between being gifted and talented and being an LIF member

I should have been more specific, but yes, I was looking for individuals who participated in more traditional gifted ed programs (pull-out, grade-skipping, acceleration, etc.). Honors classes are not generally considered to be gifted programs, and AP courses are a gray area.
For example, the district I grew up in had the following:
A pull-out program for grades 4-6 that had less stringent acceptance rates. An accelerated program in grades 7-10 that accepted approximately 3-6% of the grade into the program.

Re: Question about age for having children
LOL I vaguely remember that. But I think it was more drama because the poster was looking for school districts that had "gifted" programs for her unborn and yet to be conceived child, because said child was guaranteed to be super smart because her and her DH were both mensa level. Or something like that

Question about age for having children
So out of the people who posted, it looks like about 34% of people who typed a response participated in gifted programs (which is much higher than you would typically expect).
However, if you compare it to the number of the people who voted in the poll, that percentage drops to 24% (which is still quite high).

I'm 29, and I have 4 kids. I completed my BA and started slowly doing my masters (I'm a SAHM). I was in gifted and talented starting in 5th grade. I did AP and honors all through highschool.

Re: Question about age for having children

I'm doing an interesting project for one of my summer classes, and it led to an interesting insight about the age at which individuals have children.
For the purposes of this poll, 31 is the magic number.
Did you have children, or were you expecting your first child, at the age of 31?
If you could also respond with your level of education, and whether or not you participated in a gifted education program as a child, that would also be an interesting bit of information to include (it's what my *limited* research was based on).
When I was younger, I expected to have children by 31, but I did not. I had my first at 33.
Level of educ - post-grad (MBA) Yes, I was in a gifted and talented class in school

Re: Question about age for having children
I answered yes. My plan was to have my kids by 30, but fertility issues led me down a different path. I had my first at 34 and my second at 36. I have a bachelors degree.

Re: Question about age for having children
yes there was, I think Nell was right. I parsed out elementary g and t from high school honors and ap classes as I did both. There were 110 kids in my high school class, but in elementary school only 10 of us were in the g and t program. There were about twenty kids in he different honors classes and then most of the kids in honors also ended up in the AP classes. In my hs in order to do AP calc or AP foreign language you first had to take honors level classes in the younger grades.
