Question about Elf on Shelf for the "experts"

Before I start researching all these creative elf on the shelf placements, I thought that if you touch the elf it loses some of his magic. Does this not apply to grownups? Where do you put the elf for the day after he has created such "michief?"

Re: Question about Elf on Shelf for the "experts"

From the movie we watched nobody is supposed to touch the elf- but technically YOU are not touching the elf- because the elf is supposed to fly back to the North Pole on it's own every night and when he comes back he ends up in a different spot.
So you LO should never know you touched it.

So if I wanted to do something like this, I'd have to leave the elf on the stairs all day?

Yes, because you are not supposed to touch it. Or you could move it when your LO is not looking (at school, napping). Which is why my elf is in the same, up high places all the time Chat Icon. Maybe with older kids it would work but no way my 4 and 1 year old would not touch that elf, lol.

Technically yes.
I usually just put it on shelves etc- nothing creative like that.
My DD is pretty young though.

I don't get crazy with placements, maybe ... when I have more sleep and more energy Chat Icon

the whole "don't touch, it will lose magic" is just to prevent your kids from touching the elf and help them believe you aren't moving the elf but in fact the elf is moving him/herself. Move the elf while they sleep.

Will (our elf) got creative this am and was waiting for my kids by the Keurig with his coffee cup in hand. That the extent of my creativity this am.

Yes it would have to stay that way which is why i make sure whatever mischief Elf get's in it's not in the way of daily life.

Is there only one movie that the Elf is associated with? What is the movie? I want to get it and watch it with DD so she starts to understand the concept.
