Question about painting kitchen cabinets that are not real wood
Can this even be done? I'm not sure what the type of cabinet is called, but I think it's laminate, definitely not real wood. I know paint probably wouldn't adhere to the surface, but can it be sanded and then painted? Just curious if anyone has done this successfully. TIA!

can you tell how thick the laminate is? if it's a plastic laminate, might be difficult, but I would definitely do a light sanding so that your paint adheres to the surface properly.

Re: Question about painting kitchen cabinets that are not real wood
My mom had done this on laminate cabinets for a quick fix. She went to Sherwin Williams and they gave her this paint that goes over laminate or formica and allows the paint to adhere better. The only thing is that the paint on the cabinets will tend to streak more so than if it was real wood.

Re: Question about painting kitchen cabinets that are not real wood
I would think you could by sanding, priming and painting. It will be a lot of work. You may want to look into refacing your cabinets..
