Question about starting Stage 2 foods that are mixed (jarred food) (Earth's best or other mixed jar)

I am a bit confused about Stage 2 foods.

For ex, I buy Earth's Best jarred food.

What I am confused is about the mixtures of foods in the stage 2 jars.

What if a jar has 2 different foods mixed in it, but you never tried either of them seperately? Or you tried one of them but not the other? B/c it's stage 2 can you just give it and if they have a reaction you know it's ONE of the items in that jar?

Can someone help me make sense of it all? For ex..

I am also using Earth's Best. What I have done is make sure I have given a majority, if not all, of the ingredients prior to a mixture. Basically the allergens. For example, using the example above, I have already given carrots and corn (in another type of mixture) so it is just the beef that is new.

I always did the single ingredient jars and waited until he had tried things individually before giving him a mixture - so if he had a reaction, I could pinpoint what it was to.

I'm just feeding DS. We don't have a strong familial history of allergies. In the above sample, he's already had carrots, but frankly, I'd just feed the bottle to him and take a backstep if he had a reaction.

I see.

What the issue is is that I really like Earth's Best and all of their mixtures don't come seperately. Such as the above you can buy carrots, but not just plain corn or plain beef.

So that's why I am wondering how is the most ideal way to go about this or what everyone else does.

Thanks for your thoughts.Chat Icon

It gets confusing - I know I was!

There are other blends that cover the other ingredients.

For instance, you tried the carrots, have you tried butternut squash? You can do this first individually, then the jar of this

to get to beef, carrots and corn

If you're insane, then so am I, because that's almost the same exact trail I used when I introduced stage 2 mixes.

we haven't used Earth Best, but we're following the same trail as well (with Gerber).

1st-food solo
2nd-mixed two things
3rd-the mixture stuff like ckn dinner and such

We're still in the solo food range. Only a couple of more to try. So far, so good

Just adding my 2cents here, but after I had gone through the veggie combos w/ DS, I didn't bother w/ jarred meats. I found them Chat Icon (because I taste all of his food). I went to table meats (ground chicken breast and turkey) and avacado, lentils etc - to get protein.

I also give DD Stage 2 Earth's Best. I basically just give it to her and see how it goes. For the most part the veggies in the dinners she has already eaten so I can rule those out. She has tried almost all of their dinner variations and I haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood!) So basically, I'm winging it!! Chat Icon
