Question for older babies regarding bottles
My DD wants to feed herself her bottle - she is 11 months old. Lately, at times she doesn't want to sit on my lap to do this where I can lean her back, but wants to sit on the floor with her toys. I've used the Born Free plastic bottle for months now and the nipples are the appropriate stage for her age group (I forget the exact stage number). However, sometimes when I give her the bottle to feed herself she makes such a mess with it - all over her, her clothes, her toys and the rug. All it takes for milk to leak out of the nipple is to invert the bottle. That's the first issue... second issue is that when she holds the bottle up to her mouth - often she doesn't get the milk if there's less than like 4 ounces in it... she doesn't tilt her head back enough so she thinks it's empty and gets upset.
Any suggestions for baby's at this stage? Is there a better bottle/nipple system for older babies who cholic and spit up and such are no longer an issue for? Should I just use the sippy cup? I try to keep sippy cups only at the table, not as something to "roam" with.
TIA!

Re: Question for older babies regarding bottles
I would give her the cup as most peds suggest that they be off the bottle between 12-18 months anyway.

Re: Question for older babies regarding bottles
DS does good with the bottle sitting, but I usually lay him back on a boppy and let him have at it. When he's done he takes it out of his mouth, holds it up and drips it all in his eyes, hair, nose, on the rug, etc and thinks it's funny. So I usually just take it away at that point because he's finished drinking.
I think it's good that he likes to do things by himself and I try to encourage it even though its a big mess

Thats what I thought. I tried laying her back on a boppy and she just got mad and took herself off of it. She wants to sit up and drink so I guess it's time to move to the cup for bottles. She uses the sippy cup already for water at meals... I'll just start offering her the cup in her high chair if she doesn't let me feed her the bottle. Sometimes she's "mushy" and wants to lay back and drink... but other times she's got "work to do" and doesn't want to be held down to drink.

I would try a cup also. DS started wanting to feed himself his bottle around that age. I miss the cuddling too, but he initiates hugs now, so that helps make up for it!

Re: Question for older babies regarding bottles
We had this problem with DD early on and went out and bought a beanbag chair for her. Best thing we ever did. She sits nicely in it, tilted back and drinks her bottle.
