Question for those that updated an old alarm system to a newer one
What do they do with all those wires and the tape around the windows? DH and I already removed some of the tap and snipped the wires because they looked so ugly....should we not have done that? Wouldn't they remove them anyway?

We updated our alarm system to wireless....no tapes, no wires...
we have ADT and they did everything for us....removed the old system, the little magnetic tape on the windows and any wires....

Re: Question for those that updated an old alarm system to a newer one
We have that ugly silver tape on the windows from the old alarm system. The guy who installed our new wireless system told me I could use a razor and scrape it off. I just haven't done it yet. Also, we have an old emergency button on the wall that hasn't been removed. I don't know what to do with the wires behind so I've just left it!

yep, same here. We actually left the tape up because we can't be bothered removing it all Plus it's an additional visual deterrent IMO.

Re: Question for those that updated an old alarm system to a newer one
We still have glass break sensors on all of our windows, so they just replaced the older contacts with new ones, but they still have wires running into the window frame.
They did not remove the tape, I got a razor blade scraper thing at ACE hardware. It's like a long handle on a razor blade. Oh, and keep your dd away while you are scraping and cleaning up the old tape, it's lead based.

DH installs alarms. He says it was prob a bad idea to snip the wires if your new system is NOT going to be wireless. If it will be wireless, then it doesn't matter. If your new system will not be wireless, depending on how much damage is done, they may need to remove the molding around the windows to extend the wire. The tape is no longer used so you can just keep scraping it off. They'll put white shock sensors on the windows.
Also, if you're going wireless, the alarm company should snip the wires for you.
