Question for those who have traveled in London
Are there any other cities in the surrounding areas worth traveling to from London for day trips?
Also, how far is Bath from London?
TIA

Re: Question for those who have traveled in London
It was 20 years ago, but I remember doing a day trip to Bath. I'm not sure how far it is though. We also did Stratford-Upon-Avon in a day.

Re: Question for those who have traveled in London
Bath is gorgeous! Definitely worth a visit. It might take about 2.5 hours driving from central London. I think you can probably get British Rail from Paddington to Bath and it wouldn't take as long.
I used to live very close to Windsor and I would recommend going there for a day trip. You can do a tour of the castle and the shops and restaurants there are very nice. Afternoon tea in the Sir Christopher Wren hotel is a must. You can also walk across the river from Windsor to Eaton, which is very pretty.
If you want to go to the East side of London, Greenwich is great for a day trip too.
I went to Stratford-Upon-Avon once but was disappionted with it. I thought it was too touristy, but that's just my opinion.
My favorite was an overnight stay in Warwick. Warwick castle is amazing and the town is beautiful.

Re: Question for those who have traveled in London
I did a day trip to Oxford. It is one hour away.
I also went to Macclesfield (by Manchester), but for my own sightseeing thingy. My point is, it is 3 hours away and a 3 hour day trip is do-able.

Thank you all so much!
I think we are definitely going to dedicate one day to Bath. Is it an expensive train ride? Like the chunnel?

Re: Question for those who have traveled in London
You can spend the day at Hampton Court-- if you are a Henry VIII buff-- it really is spectacular and you can spend the whole day there if it is warm, exploring the gardens, etc. It's a 45 min train ride from London on the underground/commuter rail.

Re: Question for those who have traveled in London
If you're planning on a few trips, get a British Rail pass.
Bath is great and Winsdor, Greeniwch, Henry VIII, Oxford, Cambridge, and Canterbury is also fun to go to. I also went to Brighton but wasn't thrilled with it. I also went to Nottingham which was fun, but I believe it was kind of far from London.
Most towns have a little something to offer, its fun to explore.
