Re: Amnio questions
The amnio was so much easier than I anticipated. It was literally a pinch and by the time I flinched it was done. Afterwards you are supposed to take it easy. I did it on a Friday and stayed off my feet the rest of the weekend. I didn't have any children though so it was easy. You just aren't supposed to strain yourself too much...no heavy lifting, not too much walking etc. I had no pain or cramping. Just a little sore spot where the needle went in. About 2 weeks for results.

Re: Amnio questions
I personally have never had an amnio, but I assist in performing them several times a day.
As the PP said it's a quick pinch. Did you have a panorama or MaterniT21 testing earlier in your pregnancy or just the Alpha-Feto Protein at 15 week-ish?

Amnio questions
The thought of the amnio is worse than the actual test. The actual test is quick. It is sono guided so your baby will not be anywhere near the needle. Take the next two days easy. Don't lift etc.
Results are 7-10 days but you might be able to get the FISH results in 48 hrs. Let me know if you have any specific questions. I am very happy I made the decision to do the amnio and would again in a minute

I've only had the regular blood work testing at 12w and 16w along with sonos. They all came back perfect. I have literally had a sono almost every week of this pregnancy so I am completely shocked with this news right now. They did a materniT21 yesterday on me but those results are probably going to take just as long as the amnio results. Is my husband allowed in the procedure room with me when I get the amnio?

Amnio questions
The amnio procedure isn't that bad at all. It is a quick pinch. The upsetting part is really the fear and worry not the actual procedure. If you aren't already please make sure it is being performed by a maternal fetal medicine md who does it ALL the time. Your husband will absolutely be allowed in the room with you. As for results , I did the chromosomal micro array with my amnio. It is a more advanced test that looks for a wider array of disorders. I received my results from that test in 11 calendar days. I received the results from the traditional amnio in 14 calendar days. However, I did my test on a Friday and the sample fluid didn't get to the lab until Monday so I think that delayed the results by a couple of days. You can also get something called fish results in 24 to 48 hours. These are the preliminary results and they will definitively rule out the most common abnormalities : downs syndrome , trisomy 13, trisomy 18 and sex chromosomes disorders ( turners syndrome ) I can imagine how you must feel because I went through a similar scare in pregnancy. I did extensive research and these "soft markers " they find on scans are NOT diagnostic and very, very often turn out to be NOTHING. In fact , after my research and experience , I can really understand why so many women forgo prenatal testing. Anyway, please try to hang in there and remember the odds are dramatically in your favor for a perfect outcome!
