Quick help needed! What can I put on DS for a bad diaper rash???
DS got a bad diaper rash yesterday. It looks almost like he has a bit of a burn or open skin/sore. Its so painful when we change his diaper, I want to cry with him.
Please, someone tell me the best thing to put on it. The drug store by me has triple paste, butt paste, extra strength desitin, not sure what else. In your experience, what gives the most relief and clears it up the quickest?

I use triple paste!! I give my boys probiotics everyday and the lady at my health food store said you can actually mix the probiotics with water to make a paste and then put it on the rash!! It's worth a shot if you have probiotics!! Hope he feels better soon!!

Zinc Oxide is the ingredient you're looking for in the typical creams, look for the highest concentration... I think its triple butt paste
Keep the area dry as possible, don't use wipes, wash with a very gentle soap and water after poops only
There are other remedies girls on here recommend but haven't tried them. One of which got my attention is putting baking soda in the diaper.

Re: Quick help needed! What can I put on DS for a bad diaper rash???
Here's what the nurse at my job (30 years in pediatrics) told me:
Get chlorine free dieapers and use those whenever there is a rash.
Use paper towels with warm water, try to actually wash the hiney with gentle soap.
Dry. Apply thick layer of Aquafor, then a thin layer of Desitin over that.
***IF you are near a Walgreens, they carry this crazy OTC barrier cream called Calmoseptine. I got a few samples this week and used then on my son's HORRENDOUS diaper rash (used it over the Aquafor instead of Desitin). My son's rash is 100% GONE today, 2 days later. You can find it in the convelescence section.

Re: Quick help needed! What can I put on DS for a bad diaper rash???
Yesi, my ped recommended a layer of Desitin and slather Aquaphor over it to seal it in. When changing his diaper, don't wipe off all the cream, just slather more on top and seal it with the Aquaphor again. Adam broke out into a horrible rash when I used the Dry Max diapers on him and it cleared it up the next day! It was the only thing that worked....I had tried Triple Paste, Bordeaux's Butt Paste, A&D, etc. with no results. I recommended this to a friend and her DD's rash cleared up quickly also. Good luck! Poor Henry

Re: Quick help needed! What can I put on DS for a bad diaper rash???
Thanks everyone... my MIL is with DS today and said it looks better. When she changes his diaper, he's not crying anymore.
I took a pic and sent it to my BFF who's a ped. She said it looks fungal. We're going to take him to the ped tomorrow if I don't have nystatin at home (I think I have a small tube we got for him for something else).
Thanks for all the advise. This is what we've been doing since yesterday and it seems to have been helping:
- Bought chlorine free diapers - Bought Desitin Max Strength (purple tube with 40% zinc oxide) - Used that Desitin plus Aquaphor all over - Clean with wet paper towels instead of wipes (the wipes are fragrance free etc, but they seemed to bother him more)
PS: I tried to buy that Calmoseptine and the people at the drug store had no idea what I was asking for. Duane Reade was bought out by Walgreens so I'm not sure if they carry the same stock just yet. I'm going to order it on Amazon to have it on hand for the future. Thanks!

Re: Quick help needed! What can I put on DS for a bad diaper rash???
i can't rave enough about california baby diaper rash SPRAY...
any time em's had a horrible rash - she SCREAMS when we use wipes - so we spray this on her, then spray the wipe & she no longer cries...it's like healing magic. we use it in combination with the california baby diaper rash cream & have only needed 'ped' creams once or twice!
(they have started carrying it at Bed, Bath & Beyond). I've also seen it at Target, but never really BRU...

THANKS for this! I found the spray at Bed Bath & Beyond (they didn't have the diaper rash creme though). LOVE the spray and DS actually SMILED when I spritzed his booty! WAY better than using wet paper towels.
His diaper rash is finally clearing up - I'm hoping by tomorrow it will be even better. Thanks for all the help everyone!
