Ours is something like 32" my husband is a television transmitter engineer and he is big on using this formula of size of room v. how far you sit from the tv to buy televisions, so we never buy ones that are too big. I hate when you go to someones house and they have a HUGE tv that is way too big for the space, it hurts my head.
I read that the size should be half of the distance from the sitting area.
so our 42 is exactly right, since we sit about 7' away.

The living room in our apartment is small, and we have a 40 inch which I think is perfect. Somehow I suspect that if/when we get into our house my DH will immediately start his arguments as to why we need a bigger one...
