Re-doing a powder room/half bath- how much?

Our powder room is the pits- old toilet, old vanity, icky floor, tile that the old HOs painted over. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm wondering what it would cost (ballpark, of course) for a new toilet and vanity (not fancy, just functional) sheetrock, floor, light fixture, paint. It's a very small room- maybe 5' by 4' (too lazy to measure).

Call me nuts, but I aspire to do this (minus the plumbing and electric) with DH.

I would say you could do it for under 500 if you are REALLY thrifty-check out habitats restore for toilets and vanities. Paint is cheap-I buy oops paint a lot-usually $5 or less a gallon-and you can have them match another gallon if you need it. Buy a good bruish fro cutting(we use Purdy) and take care of it to use next time.

If the room is small consider doing an unusual color-I have seen a small bath painted midnight blue with silver accents-really nice! I have also seen small baths done with metallic paints/glazes

Brand new, a toilet should cost under $100, as well as a pedestal sink. One gallon of primer, and one gallon of paint is more than enough, so that should be about $40. Tile varies a lot, but you can get that pretty cheap if you aren't picky.

Like someone mentioned, http://www.suffolkrestore.com/ has some great used (and sometimes new) stuff there all the time. I've donated and bought several things from them so far. They have quite a few sink tops, they usually have a pedestal sink. There's usually sink cabinets. Toilets are pretty easy to get. They have random paint colors, etc.

We just redid our 1/2 bath and it was roughly $1k for everything (not including labor). We tiled the whole bathroom, got a new toilet, pedestal sink, faucet, mirror, light fixture, tp holder, towel hook and a shelf. We also bought paint for the door, celing and window trim, new blind and valence. DH's best friend is our contractor so we didn't have to pay labor...just food and beerChat Icon
