Received horrible news...
I'm so so sorry you are going thru this. I had a D&E bc of a fatal birth defect. It was out patient surgery but I was 13 weeks. My heart goes out on you. Sending strength.

Oh my goodness....I am so sorry for your loss
To answer your questions...if you are doing a actual delivery they won't knock you out. If they are removing your baby they will put you to sleep. As far a burial or cremation that is a personal choice for you and DH. I had a fetal demise at nearly 28 weeks and I was induced and went through labor and delivery. We chose to have a burial service because NYS law mandates either funeral or cremation over 19 or 20 weeks. It wasn't expensive at all (2003) and he rests in Babyland at Pinelawn.

Re: Received horrible news...
I have no answers but do agree that the burial/cremation is a personal desicion.
I also did not want to read this and not comment. I am so very sorry you are dealing with this. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Re: Received horrible news...
I am sooo sorry for your loss For me, i delivered at 23.5 weeks and I was not knocked out, I was heavily drugged though and do not remember most of it. I was told that I did hold my son, but I don not remember it to this day. I was asked about if i wanted to bury him or have him cremated or if i wanted them to take care of it. At the time i did not know what I wanted, I had a month to decide. Once I got home I knew that I needed to bury my son and I was able to go back to the hosptial and see him(since I did not remember seeing him when he was born) and we had the funeral home make arrangements for him to be buried. That Is what worked best for me. It was a long hard difficult road and if you ever need anything feel free to FM me. Even just for someone to listen.

Im so very sorry.
I think the decision to bury the baby will be up to you. Having suffered a lose at 24 weeks, my suggestion is to bury the baby.
In the case of stillborns or preterm labor, the baby has to be buried after 20 weeks gestation. Not sure how this applies to terminations though.
I am so sorry that this is happening to you.
It is your decision to bury the baby or have the hospital cremate him/her. I gave birth to a baby at 20 weeks with a birth defect and I decided to have the hospital cremate the baby-I handed that responsibility to the hospital because I couldn't deal with making funeral arrangements.
I gave birth to my child, not knocked out, but I did have the option of a D&E which I didn't do. I got to hold my son for as long as I wanted after giving birth to say goodbye. Your doctor will probably go over your options on what is safest for you.
Again, I am just so sorry.

Re: Received horrible news...
I am so sorry you are going through this right now and for your family. I had a loss at 17wks too and had a d&e. One thing I can say is it's really up to you to seek out options, because if your experience is anything like mine, I really wasn't given any. It was from some of the kind and experienced ladies on here that I got the idea to ask about a delivery instead and made the decision to have him buried. I ended up doing a d&e ultimately because they said it would be safest. I honestly regretted it for a while, but have recently come to peace with it. We buried him in Staten Island and got a brick at the "Angel of Hope" monument at Eisenhower Park. It's my way of feeling like I can "visit him" without going all the way to the cemetery, which I have admittedly not been back to since the day we left him there.
Let me know if you would like more info on the brick. I also asked for a footprint, but was unable to get one.
Again, I am so so sorry you are going through this. It's awful and NOBODY should know this kind of pain . I know right now in your darkest of moments it's impossible to see it, but you WILL get through this.. bit by bit..

Re: Received horrible news...
im so deeply sorry. I suffered a lose at 21 weeks, idk why they didnt give me the option of a D&E. I was induced. FM me if you have any questions or concerns. So very sorry I didnt bury my DD, she was cremated, and i keep her ashes with me.
My prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time.

Re: Received horrible news...
Thank you for your support, words of wisdom and help during this time. We spent 2 hours with Barbara at Madonna. I'll be having a D&E with the consult and first step on Wednesday at Columbia. We have chosen to let the hospital handle the remains. I'm not mentally able to cope with it nor financially. It's a definitive diagnosis-Trisomy 18. The FISH results were wrong because the probe couldn't detect the 3rd copy of the chromosome. So I've been living with a false sense of happiness for the past 2 weeks only to have it taken away. I'm relieved things will get resolved sooner than later. Thank you all again for your support and answers. I wish you all so much luck and love in your pregnancies!
