sunday in the park with george is starting in january at the roundabout theatre. It's from Stephen Sondheim and the music is gorgeous.

see the drowsy chaperone if you can. . . i am a theatre nut and i've seen a LOT of shows and have been in a lot of shows.... and this one of the best i've seen in a LONG time...
it's closing at the end of the year, so i would really try to see it if you can.
other suggestions:
wicked, curtains, and a chorus line.

i have also seen a lot of plays and my top favorites are chicago, rent and jersey boys. i'd also highly recommend phantom.
i wouldn't recommend drowsy chaperone or grease.

Most of the musicals have already been mentioned - so if you're looking for a drama:
The Seafarer by Conor McPherson - I love him. He's way too young to be such a good writer - he's a genius.
The Homecoming by Harold Pinter - ok, a very dark, disturbing play - a classic from the 60s but Ian McShane is in it now (from Deadwood) and for my money, Pinter is always a twisted delight.
Rock and Roll by Tom Stoppard - a bit too long - but Rufus Sewell is great and Stoppard knows more about everything than anyone in the world. This play is about the velvet revolution in Czech Republic and the advent of rock and roll.
