Recommend your vacuum for pets thats NOT a Dyson
our Bissel pet hair eraser crapped out on us and we need a new vacuum. i really dont have $500 to spend on a Dyson but i need a good vacuum for pet hair. my dog has long hair and its a paint to get up.
any recommendations?

We have a Kennmore vacuum from Sears but I forget the specific name of it. It was on Consumer Reports as best vacuum for pet hair.

Ours is also a Kenmore canister and works pretty well on our dog's hair -- not sure of the style/type but it's pretty basic.
My parents even have the same one now...

We just got an LG (the blue upright one) that I love. It was half the price of the Dyson on Amazon and so far, it's been great with 2 kids and 2 cats. My coworker got one right about the same time and has 3 longhairs and says it's working great on those hairs too.

which navigator do you guys have?
is it the liftway or the regular one?
I have a dyson and need another vacuum and want a good one but don't want to fork over another 500 for another dyson and I've heard great things about this one above.

I have the liftaway. I love it because it's so light, and sometimes being able to lift the canister off the base comes in handy, especially when using the hose attachment to get pet fur off the couch.

I have an Orek and Im really not that crazy about it at all. I find the tube that connects the suction part and the bag gets clogged very easily, and I have to take it apart almost every time I use it to unclog it.

We also have your basic Kenmore canister, and a super hairy dog! I've vacuumed up tons of fur on a daily basis for the past 4 yrs., and it is still going strong!

Have you tried to fix your vacuum? More often than not, people throw away a perfectly good vacuum that requires a 10 dollar fix. When you say crapped out, what is your vacuum not doing?
