I used to think about it all the time....but our area is so flooded with studios (2 major ones closed down last june) that its pretty iffy. Chat Icon

Re: Retirement Age

hmmm...good question.....I'd love to by the age of 62 if there's social security and the 401K from me and DH will be enough to live on. If not, I'll die at my desk, like a PP joked....

I can collect my pension at 55 because I enrolled in the 55/25 program through the DOE. I will likely have 30 yrs by 55 (depending on how many yrs i take off for my kids it might be 56, 57).

I chose 55-60, but it will be closer to 55, unless I want to keep working.

I did this as well- I will actually have the service at 50. But I don't think I'll last at the DOE till I'm able to retire. I've decided to quit before they are able to fire me. Chat Icon

Beyond that, I don't know when I'll fully retire.

I know you have mentioned quitting...are you really going to??

Well if i take no time off I will have the service at 48Chat Icon and could defer my penison until 55....something to think about Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Retirement Age

We have a plan and so far its coming along. I hope to go part time within the next 6 years and be retired fully by 55. Although health issues may push that forward with the quickness.

We worked to get our mortgage down so that part of DH salary can cover it and I would have to work less. The girls will both be in school next year so I am looking for a part time job once that happens. This way I can be home when they get out but still make a little extra. Retirement will be in stages.

Re: Retirement Age

I will be vested in my pension this year at my current place of employment. Obviously, the more years I work the more $$ I get in the end.

So I will say between 60-65.

However, DH has a nice pension and retirement plan set up. So I'm hoping if we are in a good place finacially at that time that I can retire when he plans on 55-60.

43, thank you very much!

DH will also be 43! I will have to wait until 55 or when DS graduates from college which will be closer to 58.... Then, it's a matter of selling the house, buying a condo on the beach somewhere warm, and drinking margaritas all day long! Chat Icon

Re: Retirement Age

I would LIKE to retire by 65, preferably sooner. I really don't know if that's a feasible plan though - a lot will depend on things that happen between now and then. The state of my 401K, my and DH's health, any major financial issues that come up, etc.

I plan to work until my normal social security retirement age (67).

I work a corporate job with no pension. Every dime that I am going to have when I retire will come from my savings.

So as much as I would like to retire early and travel the world, it won't happen unless I hit the jackpot!

Re: Retirement Age

I was a SAHM for 6 years and before that I was in graduate school, so I did not even begin a retirement fund until I turned 35. I love my career, so I think I will be fine working til I'm 65-70 as long as I'm healthy!

Re: Retirement Age

I'm shooting for 60. Our mortgage should be paid off in 10 years Chat Icon and we'll sock even more away to retirement and college accounts. And I also teach college, so if I get bored (which I don't foresee happeningChat Icon), I can always continue to teach a class or two a semester.

Re: Retirement Age

My husband will retire at 55 with a pension, that will probably support us. I am SAHM now working very part time so I could always do that if I choose in the future too.

I wouldn't even know how to project what age. Of course I would like now, but that isn't going to happen.

One thing DH and I talk about often is that we won't be able to stay in our current professions until we retire - we feel we only have another 15-20 years max at our current profession before we need to move to something else.
