Revamping my wardrobe
I'm starting to slowly replace my "disposable" clothing (Old Navy, NY & Co.) with slightly higher end stuff. I am a SAHM, so I don't need anything fancy, but I do want quality pieces that will last more than one or two seasons.
I have plenty of jeans so I don't need those, and I will probably replace my shoes last, so right now I want to focus on tops.
If you had about $150 to spend on, say, 3 pieces, what would you get? Or would you hit up the outlets to get more pieces?
Any advice is appreciated!

I would go to Macys or Lord & Taylor - I think a lot of the time you can do better with a sale &/or coupon than at the outlets. And they have a decent selection of good quality brands (Tommy Hilfiger, Calvin Klein, INC., Ralph Lauren, etc) that won't break the bank, but will last longer than some of the brands you mentioned.

I'd get a good pair of black pants, a good pair of gray pants and a black sheath dress. You can add cheaper pieces to those and make tons of outfits.

Yeah... like I said, I don't need pants, and I don't want cheap. Thanks though.

Thanks, I didn't even think of going to a department store

Revamping my wardrobe
I've done well at Nordstrom Rack and Bloomies outlet for some nice tops. Their prices are probably about right if you want to get 2-4 nice tops/sweaters. I also find them to be a little higher quality than some other stores. I recently got some cute sweaters and collared shirts (cute/fun collared shirts, not like boring collared work shirts) from Nordstrom Rack.

Revamping my wardrobe
I've gotten a lot of nice shirts, blazers, little sweaters at banana republic and banana republic outlet. They wash well.

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
You guys are the best, all great ideas. I definitely need new sweaters, I'll check out the BR outlet for sure. Unfortunately there are no Nordstroms by me but I can probably get to one in the spring.
SeaWolf I prob should have clarified, I pretty much only wear jeans and yoga pants

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
What about Ann Taylor Loft? Do they have good stuff even if I don't need work clothes?

Love love LOVE Loft. And their sweaters wash really well, too. I have some for years from there. I also find that sweaters from the Limited wash really well too, and don't pill.

I was just going to post I find the quality at AT significantly better than the loft. AT is not just 'work clothes' - it's IS a bit more conservative than the Loft, but not stuffy. Especially if you're looking for staple tops that wash well and hold their shape.
i def. recommend AT ....... I'd categorize the Loft as "throw away" as in your original post. They're NOT inexpensive, and they wash like sh*t -

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
I guess "throw-away" level is relative. I'm reluctant to throw away a sweater I paid $54.50 for!
Maybe a good compromise is the Ann Taylor outlet store (not Loft) but I've found those clothes feel a little too "old" for me.
Sounds like you should sign up for Stitch Fix

I agree with this... AT quality is WAY better than Loft and they run 50% sales so I'd hold out for one of those. BR is good too but BR outlet was mentioned and I find the quality there to be CRAP. I'd say hit the Jcrew outlet... They have great stuff for casual.

AT is definitely better quality that loft, but I've gotten stuff at loft that I was very happy with and held up well. Honestly I shop the outlets a lot to save some money too. AT outlet is very hit or miss though. Sometimes they have a great selection, other times I can't find anything or like the pp said it is too "old" looking for me.

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
I'm so surprised! I love Loft so much - at least 50% of my wardrobe is from there. I've only rarely had a problem w/quality!

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
I was going to suggest Loft, but wasn't sure if that was high end for you. Almost everything I own is from Loft, I think the way their clothes fit is amazing, love the styles and they often have sales too. BTW, I don't work either and thats all I wear.

I've had mixed experiences w/Anthropologie. Some stuff is awesome... and some stuff is so thin and poorly made that I coudlnt believe how much I paid for it.

Same. I like Anthro but I've learned that I need to see things in person before I buy from there. Some stuff is so overpriced. I usually wait for sales there.

Re: Revamping my wardrobe
I have a few pieces from both. I love my anthropologie stuff but it's hit or miss. I've had pieces for 10+ years and love them... But they are mostly coats and stuff I wear occasionally.
I love madewell jeans. That's all I have from them.
I found NY&co affordable and hold up well. I live in their stuff fir work but they have nicer casual pieces too!
