Rice cereal and constipation
DS was doing very well with the Similac sensitive and going regularly.
He started rice cereal on Saturday and has been getting 1 tblsp a day. All day today, he has been straining to go. I just gave him prune juice and hopefully it will help.
Question is...should I D/C the rice and just start on the oatmeal and hope that works or should I stick it out a bit longer with the rice? Can I just give him oatmeal and not the rice at all?

Re: Rice cereal and constipation
the same exact thing happened to DS, we stopped the rice and went to oatmeal, and he was great on it. We only do oatmeal, and now fruit and veggies.
I would check with your ped. though, see what they have to say, as everyones ped. is different.

same thing happened to Gianna. Her pedi told us to skip the rice and go right to oatmeal.
give your pedi a call just to be sure he/she agrees.

Re: Rice cereal and constipation
I *think* I remember Drmom mentioning that she puts cereal in with the fruit/veggies instead of the formula. Her boys were also constipated. The only thing about doing that is that you may want to introduce fruit/veggies separately from the cereal before deciding to do so in case your child develops allergies.

Same thing with us. I would stop the rice and move on to oatmeal. Maybe try the rice again once you have introduced some fruit and veggies, which might help things along.
