rice cereal and reflux
im pretty sure i've seen this posted here at some point, but the pediatrician suggested adding a teaspoon of rice cereal to DS bottles to help with the reflux.
(we're going for a GI Series in the meanwhile to see whats going on with his belly.)
She said it will help make the formula a little heavier and not come back up on him. (he's on alimentum which she said is a very thin formula). Im afraid it may cause more distress..like more gas or bloating.
anyone do this for reflux issues?
Thanks!

Re: rice cereal and reflux
weve been dealing with Sophia's reflux for the past 5 weeks
shes on Zantac and gets 1tbsp of rice cereal in every 2oz of formula. shes currently taking 4oz at a time so she gets 2tbsp or rice cereal/bottle.
its seems to help the vomiting, and doesnt seem to cause excess gas or fussiness. i am worried that its too many extra calories as shes a chubby mama (11.5lbs at 8 weeks)
my 1 word of advice -- if you are going to use the cereal and need to use a special nipple get the Dr. Brown's (youd have to use the bottles too). We tried Avent and Playtex first and neither let the cereal out, even though we used the nipples specifically for cereal! The Dr Browns work!
