and if he wants to play with a toy he absolutely can , kids will be kids.

eek, sorry, I never chime in on arguments on threads but if anyone's DC started playing with my DS's toys during an open house, I'd ask them to stop. Not a polite thing to allow your child to do without the owner's permission, but that's my opinion.

To answer the original question, I would not want people just making themselves at home on my furniture, helping themselves to my fridge or anything else. If paperwork must be signed then I wouldn't mind people sitting at my table. Picture takers, I'd be ok with but I'd like them to ask. I'd be just as courteous in someone else's house.

Just want to also add that I'd also ask people to remove shoes or wear my plastic booties over shoes & no pets inside.

I don't mind if someone needs to sit down to discuss something with the realtor and/or sign paper work. I don't mind if people wear their shoes inside, so long as they wipe their feet. I don't mind if people need to use the bathroom either. I also wouldn't mind if people took pictures or video, though I would appreciate it if they didn't post them on the internet. And by all means, open cabinets and closets. You are looking to buy the houes and that includes cabinets and closets.

Other than that, hands off my stuff. If a kid grabbed a toy or something, I wouldn't be upset -- but I would be upset if the parent just ignored it and let the child keep touching things in my house. That's just rude. I would feel very violated if someone went through my drawers or personal items or felt the need to use / touch my stuff that is not for sale.

I would FLIP if someone brought a pet with them. Your pets are not welcome in my home. Only MY pets are welcome in my home.

Okay, let's go the reverse.

How would you feel if you went to see house and the homeowner asked you to take off your shoes???? And you were wearing sandals (i.e.) no socks? Weird?

When we were looking at properties OOS recently, a couple of owners requested this. We were looking at FARMS, though, so I understood. And, since we were walking around farm property, I also had on appropriate footwear with socks. It didn't bother me, but I will admit that I found it uncomfortable and odd. I am ALWAYS barefoot in my own home because that's how I am comfortable, but I never ask others to do so.

It didn't make any difference as to whether or not we'd make an offer on the property, but I didn't like it.

A couple of times I let DS play with the toys to keep him quiet , I personally don't think it's a big deal everything was put back. everytime we walk in to a toy room, I'm like ohhhhhhhhh here we goooooo bc he will have a fit if I don't put him down.

I wouldn't mind if it were the other way around and the kids were playing w/ My DS toys, but I'm a softee and don't like to say no to any kid

Chat Icon

I wouldn't want my realtor to say anything, just sell the place!

Sooo rude IMO

Im sorry but if you are bringing your child, bring him his own toy to play with. I dont want your kids germs on my kids stuff. ( you putting them back is even worse bc i dont know to wash them)

IMO it is important to teach children that they need to respect other peoples things and that they cant play with whatever they want.

totally agree..don't touch my stuff..you are not my friend, my kid's friends or a relative..most of those would ask to use something in my house anyway.

Totally rude!

ITA and I'm very Chat Icon that people actually do this! Anytime DH and I ever went to an open house, we never sat on people's furniture/touched their stuff except to open cabinets, closet doors to see the storage space.
