Re: Rudy or Hillary?
I'm sorry but both choices are poor choices for presidents. It's sad when you have to choose one of the lesser evils and that is exactly when is going to happen come the 2008 elections.

I agree with a previous poster about Guiliani, where was he before 9/11? cleaning up NYC and pissing people off b/c he didn't listen to them protesting.
I don't know how many on here remember what NYC was like before he became Mayor, but IMO, it was a place to be feared! Crime was out of control, homeless people lining every street and nothing but hookers and porn shops taking up all of Times Square

Because she is a strong-minded woman?
a strong minded woman doesnt start her career off as a republucan than switch to being a democrat
a strong minded woman doesnt change her mind on foreign policy so much you can make your head spin
a strong minded woman doesnt stick with a lying cheating husband for the sake of advancing her own political gains. if she had dumped his sorry asss, moved on, and grew a set, then id have ALOT more respect for her
just to name a few things
a good man doesn't cheat on his wife, and then announce to the press that he is getting divorced before telling his wife he is leaving her.
jmho.
There's definitely questionable personal stuff with both of them. He flaunted his gf all over the place.
And about party politics. He became mayor by playing the moderate track, and now he's backing up the neo conservatives in the republican party.
I really HATED Giuliani for not sending his son to public school.
Same with Bloomberg.
I think if you're going to be a NYC Mayor you have to send your kids to public school and if the school is not good enough for your kids, then you better get working to fix them, because they have to be good enough for my kids.

Maybe I am in the Minority, but I choose Hilary. Why exactly don't people like her? Because she is a strong-minded woman? I agree with a previous poster about Guiliani, where was he before 9/11?
He was taking all of the character out of NY I know you are very young, but NYC before Rudy was a disgusting city!

I wouldn't go that far.
He definitely made a safer and cleaner city, but I think he went too far with certain things.

Re: Rudy or Hillary?
since so many brought up cheating... how much respect do you have someone who's husband cheated on her while he was President of the most powerful nation on earth and didn't do a thing about it?
I just find it funny how everyone thinks she is a strong woman... but not too strong to tell Bill to kiss her azz.
I voted for Hillary and would again, for Senate. NEVER for President!

neither, really
But if I have to pick, I choose Hillary.
Everyone remembers 9/11 as the whole of Rudy as mayor, but there were 7 years before that
I could have written this myself. I strongly dislike Giuliani!

I can't criticize her for not leaving her husband, that was her own personal decision and her business. Maybe it took more stengh to stick with him. I don't know

I remember back when Koch was in office and I have to say I disagree. Sure it's cleaner and Times Square is much improved as well, but I wouldn't say it was a disgusting city.

I have to agree.
I am young, but I have lived in NYC for my entire life... I don't think it was disgusting. it had a worse reputation, but AI would never say it was disgusting

Here is an interesting Bio on Rudy that shows how much he cleaned up the city. I dont know how objective it is but even if it's not, it still says a lot....

I think Rudy did a lot to clean up the city. There is no doubt he was a huge part of increasing tourism, closing down the porn shops, etc.
However, he started to go meglomaniac & thought he could run the city as he wanted without answering to any legistaltive process...which reminds me too much of a current president I despise.

Rudy
Here's the wikipedia one, slightly less biased.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudolph_Guiliani
The NYC gov. page won't list anything bad about anyone in office, former or present.

We definitely disagree on this one (and that's okay!) because the late 80s and early 90s is when I loved it most!!

Re: Rudy or Hillary?
I'm a big proponent of looking at facts, etc. so I googgled it a bit.
In terms of being tough on crime, Giuliani did alot, especially since it's contiuing the downward trend: (Source: Winkipedia)
Since 1991, New York City has seen a continuous fifteen-year trend of decreasing crime and is now the safest large city in the United States. Neighborhoods that were once considered dangerous are now thriving with new businesses and housing, and many residents feel safe to walk the streets late at night. Violent crime in the city has dropped by 75% in the last twelve years and the murder rate in 2005 was at its lowest level since 1963: there were 537 murders that year, for a murder rate of 6.57 per 100,000 people, compared to 2245 murders in 1990. Some feel that the implementation of COMPSTAT crime analysis by the New York Police Department in 1994 is responsible for the positive changes.
Overall, New York City had a rate of 2,801.6 crimes per 100,000 people in 2004, compared with 8,959.7 in Dallas; 7,903.7 in Detroit; 7,402.3 in Phoenix; 7,346.8 in San Antonio; 7,194.8 in Houston; 5,470.5 in Philadelphia; 4,376.0 in Los Angeles; and 4,102.7 in San Diego.

I agree.
I think he was a good major. I think he went too far with things and his tenure was up after those years and I was glad to have a change. I don't like his methods and as I said he went too far, and I don't think he's president material.
I really don't want Hillary as president either. I feel like she's just a default choice since she's one of the nation's leading democrats, and I think she's a good senator, but I also don't think she's what we need in our next president.

Re: Rudy or Hillary?
theoretically you could argue that crime was on a downward trend when giuliani got into office, so he just carried the wave.
But personally I think HE did do a lot, and I liked him as mayor, but I was not one of the people campaigning for an exception so he could have a 3rd term after 9/11.

I read the article.
I agree with the Dems #2 choice. I would defintiely vote for Al Gore again!
me too! I heart Al Gore (it broke my heart when he lost )
Me too - I would vote for him again in a heartbeat. He should have been president, he WON that election.
