Runners....a question for you
I am looking to lose 15-20lbs in about a month and a half. I can run about 25 minutes without stopping now, thanks to the C25K program I've only run about 4x in the last 2 months, I injured my knee and wanted to let it heal completely before starting again. My knee is fine now, so my question is this....which will get this weight off me quicker, speed or distance? About how many miles should I be running a week to lose the weight (along with diet)?

Re: Runners....a question for you
idk for sure, but i'm assuming that distance would help to lose weight. the longer/more you run, the more calories you would burn so i'm thinking you would lose more weight like that.
i personally saw changes in my body by running a minimum of 15 miles per week. HTH!

Re: Runners....a question for you
Longer time, or distance.
Can't post a link now bc I am on a mobile device but I read a study on burning calories and the results were something like walking X amount of miles vs jogging X amount of miles resulted in only slightly less calories burned walking when compared to jogging. So this study showed distance was key, speed did not have a large effect.

Re: Runners....a question for you
WHen I lost the bulk of the baby weight I was running only 10-15 miles per week. I am now running 20-25. Do what is comfortable now and slowly increase. You should only increase your mileage 10% per week to avoid injuries

Re: Runners....a question for you
Distance BUT you can't just increase mileage out of nowhere, you shouldn't increase by more than 10% (someone else said that too). You don't want to risk injury. You also aren't going to lose weight just by running (I'm sure you know that)--and you don't want to be injured so you might not be able to just run enough to lose that much weight. Yes, you probably will lose some weight but when you run far, you also need nourishment.

Re: Runners....a question for you
I agree that distance is the way to go. It's all about calories burned and you will burn more with a longer run.

Re: Runners....a question for you
Distance definitely. I lost all of my baby weight and 8 additional pounds by running around 16-20 miles a week. But 20 lbs is a lot for a month and a half. The most you should be losing is 2 lbs per week. Just be careful.

I agree with all of this.

Re: Runners....a question for you
Totally agree with the others, I lost all of my baby weight by running 10-12 miles each week and watching my sugar & carb intake. I also have a leg injury & nerve damage from childbirth and had to take it very slow to get to this point. I didn't start running until 8 months post injury. Good luck
