Re: Sarah Palin's Interview
forget most americans explaining the bush doctrine - most politicians can't! they do this on purpose - find the one thing she isn't 100% versed on and fire away - i'm not surprised.
i think she handled herself well - explained things the best she could. i watch obama with o'reilly -- they reminded me of each other (the interviews, that is).

No most Americans can't explain the Bush Doctrine. But most are not running for VP of our country.
Sorry, she should understand this.

Re: Sarah Palin's Interview
I asked my college freshmen if they had seen the interview. None of them had. I then asked if someone could explain what the Bush doctrine is. Half the class raised their hands and I only called on one person. He was clear and succinct.
They asked me why I wanted to know if they understood the Bush doctrine (this is a class in Freshman composition). I said "go online and you'll see why."
It is a HUGE fumble.

I really dont think people are being partisan here.
I dont think it's a matter of finding the one thing she's not 100% versed on - it's our shock that she didnt know the defining piece of Bush's foreign policy. This is not a little known doctrine - this was the BASIS for our going into Iraq.
If Obama was in an interview and showed that he didnt know what the Bush doctrine was, I'd say he was a mess in the interview.

this makes me sad.
you think I care if who wins the presidency based on PARTISANSHIP??
not at all. I love my country. I want to see it do the RIGHT thing but it's people and by the rest of the WORLD. not trample over it like some big ogre!
you should care more that she doesn't know what it is...not chocking it up to "who does" she is NOT any WHO.
what if you were interviewing her as a potential Long Term Care nurse for your brother...wouldn't you care if she didn't know much about head trauma? if she didn't know more than you?
make it PERSONAL. make her be BETTER than YOU are. EXPECT that much from her!

ITA!!!
I think we all love our country, and we all are sickened by the state of affairs we have after 8 years of the Bush administration (well, most of us are).
But the coherent parts of her interview scare me. She is ready to go to war with any country that offers a threat to the U.S. And she really should understand more than your average Joe.
I agree, if Obama said this, people would be all over him.

I disagree. Most politicians on a state-wide or national level CAN and WOULD be able to answer the question about the Bush Doctrine.

Did I know the Bush Doctrine before today? Nope. But she should have.
And Obama REALLY held his own even though O'reilly basically cut him off for every single answer. I didn't see the Palin interview so I can't give my full opinion yet but yes, I really think she should have known it - not even as a VP candidate but also just as a political figure from Bush's own party.

Re: Sarah Palin's Interview
I truly think she made a mess of that interview. She was unprepared and stumbled too much. I would say that of any candidate, Democratic or Republican, who interviewed that badly.
She did not know things that a VP or Presidential candidates HAD to know. She is running to be OUR VP, not the VP of some other country. We need to care more about what these candidates do and do not stand for, care about, believe in, regardless of our own political standings.

Yes, separate parts. I think there may have been a segment on GMA this morning, though the Nightline from last night was the biggest chunk. Not sure if there's more on tonight's nightly news broadcast though.

You might not have been surprised, but clearly she was, and she's the one running for VP. It baffles me that her people didn't prep her more - obviously they were going to talk about foreign policy!! The more I read and see of her, I think she was a 100% political move on the Republican's part and it's starting to backfire. From that interview last night she is nowhere ready to be commander-in-chief, IMO.

thanks, for whatever reason it keeps stopping to "buffer" when I watch it online so I had to stop cause it was too much....so I'm hoping it's on WNT, tonight.

Yes, the full hour on 20/20 tonight is dedicated to more of the interview. It comes on at 10pm.

I just watched the interview and my jaw is on the floor.
It's not that she didn't understand the Bush Doctrine--she didn't even know what it was!!
Unbelievable.

Most Americans can't explain the Bush Doctrine b/c there is no one acceptable definition of exactly what the Bush Doctrine is. There is NO widely-accepted definition of the doctrine. Some believe it is the preemptive use of force to prevent terrorism. Others believe it is promoting democracy to defeat terrorism. There are various other definitions as well. I think MOST people would have struggled with that question, given that there is no widely accepted definition of the so-called doctrine.
As for why *this* Republican hasn't commented. I worked 70 hours this week. I haven't seen more than 5 minutes of clips from the interview. I'm not going to comment on something I haven't seen.

That's what Bill O'Reilly said when he tried to spin the interview. He's wrong.
When the Iraq war resolution was being debated in the Senate - the Bush doctrine was used as the justification for going to war. It is the USA giving itself permission for preemptive strike.
It is not us spreading democracy. We have been spreading democracy for centuries.

I am no poly-sci anything, but I was fully aware of what Charles Gibson was asking for when he asked that question. And many Americans who have kept abreast of current affairs in the past ten years would know too.
And you know, if I was pro-life, NRA supporting, and republican, Sarah Palin would have made me excited AS she was portrayed when picked. Hell, that lipstick comment would have been a GIFT if it was vice versa to someone like Hillary Clinton and I don't fault them for running with it.
BUT, if I was a MCCAIN supporter I would be VERY concerned on how she was portrayed and actually GRATEFUL to ABC that they chopped up the interview and aired in shorter bits at different times of the day...THAT lessened the blow of this very poorly done interview. She clearly needs more media training.

seems these republican candidates can do absolutely no wrong in your eyes. Call a spade a spade...she's not ready to lead.
I mean, I'm not trying to be confrontational or anything...i know it's an opinion.
