Re: Saw this picture on Pinterest and it made me cry
I'm glad you are in a group because unless someone has gone thru it they will never fully understand. you WILL get thru this and I hope you will continue to reach out. Save all your energy for your children and your time on Skype :) Big hugs to you and you are not alone!!!! I am wondering if taking an online course or one at a local CC would help somewhat with the time. I know it helped a few ladies I know. Bless you and I will keep you in my prayers

To the OP - as some other people mentioned - it looks like a reunion to me as well, not a good-bye. It just has the look of "happy tears" to me.

Regardless of how you feel about the word deployment, the fact that some of you felt the need to tell her she was being disrespectful was downright harsh and cruel. Her husband may not be military but he's in the same dangerous areas that they are and will be there for months. As if this time period hasn't been hard enough on her you guys come along and kick her when she's down. Shame on all of you.
ITA!!!!!
Wow!!! Sorry to that poster for having to read all of these comments. I just dont get it. As women we should help each other out, build each other up, learn to be kind to one another.
It is a common trend for some individuals to act like this... It's ashame!
Agree with this, I cant believe this site got this level or that people feel so perfect to attack someone for the word she used.

My husband deployed at the end of May for a 6 month training tour in afghanistan...believe me, nothing prepares you for the reaction of actually saying goodbye. You rehearse it, say how strong you'll be and not show the kids how upset you are, but when the cab pulled up outside our home to take him to the airport, my husband broke down sobbing...
We are NOT military and he will never have to do this again. I DO NOT KNOW how people do it all the time and for longer than 6 months. I have made friends with moms who have spent most of their marriages apart...its becomes their new "normal" but I don't think i could ever do it. Thank GOD there are people in this world who can and are strong enough to get through this kind of life...I pray everyday for God to watch over everyone in these godforsaken warzones.
Oh, in the past I thought you were a military spouse when you said deployed. Deployed means combat, no?
I thought the same thing. Please don't use this term. It's disrespectful to the men and woman( my brother included) who risk thier lives fighting for our country.
My husband served two tours in Iraq and I think this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever read. Shame on any of you for saying that she shouldn't use a WORD because her husband is not in the Military.
ETA: last time I checked, there is no Draft so I believe all Military is voluntary. When you enlist in the Military you are volunteering to go to war, if the need be and you are being paid as well (even if it is crap money).

I will never know how people leave their babies..it's a calling I will never know.
That was my first thought as well! While I admire and appreciate their effort immensely, I can not conceive of how a MOTHER can put herself on active duty KNOWING she might have to get up and LEAVE her children for G'd only knows how many months or even years!
But it's okay for a father to do it?
Well, it's not OK that there is a need in this world for ANYONE to do it, but I just find it especially hard to fathom that a mother can find the courage and the need to rip herself away from her kids! Hard to argue there is a difference... A mother is traditionally a nurturer, not a fighter, and I do have a more traditional set of mind... To each their own, of course. As I said, my admiration and gratitude towards our soldiers is immeasurable, and yet I can't understand what drives a (potential) mother towards such a step... That's all... And may all our soldiers come back home safe!!!!!

Re: Saw this picture on Pinterest and it made me cry
So much emotion-Picture can go either way... A reunion or separation. Sometimes with separation the emotion doesnt hit until its time to board that plane-.I hope it was a reunion.
Also to clarify about the term deployed-DoD Civilians and military can be deployed-it means to distribute/put to action(in this case manpower). So its not only for the military. Just wanted to share.

Re: Saw this picture on Pinterest and it made me cry
This looks like a reunion to me. Departures usually take place on a base or post of some sort, not in a civilian airport. It looks exactly like my Ex's reunion with our DS after his year long deployment to Afghanistan So much emotion in this pic. I love it.

I would think that most of these women aren't given a choice. A friend of mine was in the army for two years of her five when she and her husband had a baby. She was given NO CHOICE but to go to war when her unit was called, she still had three years "active duty" left. She was in agony over what to do but in the end there was no alternative. This is the case usually especially with active duty. I am still on a hold list and if they ever need me for the next year and 3 months they can pull me for deployment. I can't even imagine being away from my kids like that.

This was my first thought.
Joining the military is still voluntary, right?
To the OP, it's a very moving picture. I suppose the optimist in me thinks it's a homecoming pic rather than one of her going away. At least I hope that's the case.
