Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
What times do you feed him/her and what do they eat?? We are doing oatmeal in the morning with veggies or veggies and fruit in the afternoon but now the dr wants us to increase it to 3 meals per day I'm worried that DS isn't going to get enough milk throughout the day and that I'm giong to be feeding him every 2-3 hours just to get all his meals in and still offer him some milk inbetween. I'm so lost - is it really this complicated?! HELP!

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
Dd is 7months
She gets a 4oz bottle, oatmeal and a fruit as soon as she wakes up
3 hours later she gets an 8oz bottle
3hours later she gets pastina and a veggie. She used to also get a small bottle here but she dropped it a while ago
3 hours later she gets a meat combo like turkey and rice or beef vegeatble
And then finally at about 7pm she gets an 8oz bottle and goes to sleep
I often feel like I am constantly feeding her but she never turns it down and she growing like a weed

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
DD eats 3x a day now. Yesterday was the first day she completely skipped her 5 am bottle, though. Today she was back up at 5 and eating. Oh well. Anyway...
I usually give her a bottle when she wakes up, somewhere between 6 & 8 am. I feed her solids around 9:30 am. She takes a nap right after that. She has another bottle at 11:30 am. She gets another meal around 1:30. She has another bottle before her bath and nap (she still takes 3 naps a day) at 4. She eats her third meal with us, around 5:30 and has her 4th bottle before going to sleep, around 7.
I just try to keep alternating bottle and food. She's still drinking 24-30 ounces a day (depending on her mood).
I do feel like I'm feeding her all the time.
She usually has a grain and fruit in the morning, fruit & veggie & sometimes starch for lunch and a protein (lentils right now) and both fruit & veggies for dinner. I plan to start another protein next week. I make all her food so I don't measure it jar-wise.

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
Wow we really do end up feeding them every 2-3 hours I'm still worried about the amount of milk he drinks and I"m going to talk to the ped about it when we go in a few weeks -- we have to add oatmeal/cereal to every bottle because of his bad reflux so he doesn't drink as many oz as a normal baby does so we are already just getting 15 oz a day with 2 meals so I'm worried that it will drop again when we add the 3rd meal -- I read somewhere that they should get 15 oz a day for the first year...

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
we do breakfast, lunch, and dinner for meals we then do 3 bottles (one at 6am, one at 4pm, one at 10pm) the bottles are 8oz each to make sure he gets enough milk.
Even with this schedule, DS is eating every 3-4 hrs. it drives me nuts!

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
We fed DS every 2 hours when he was first eating three times a day and still on 4 bottles a day. Bottle, meal, bottle, meal, bottle, meal, bottle. When he went to milk at a year, we dropped that fourth bottle and moved the others up to mealtimes.
I would check with your ped, but 15 oz a day sounds really low. 16 oz a day is the minimum a 1 to 2 year old should have. If your child is under a year, I think he should be getting more formula than that. Not an expert though, definitely check.

Re: Schedule for feeding infants 3 times per day
We do meals at typical breakfast, lunch, dinner times, and bottles after naps, so our day looks something like this:
6:30 - wake - 8 oz bottle 7:30/8AM - breakfast (waffles & fruit or oatmeal & fruit) 9:30-11AM - NAP 11AM wake from nap - 6 oz bottle 12:30 - lunch (veggie & a fruit) 1:30-3PM NAP 3PM - wake up from 2nd nap - 6 oz bottle 6PM - dinner (pastina) 7:30 bed
