School break prices
Looking at airfare for nov break, it's 900 per person. I check the week before, it's 400 per person
I don't want to take ds out of school but the price difference is incredible

That's exactly why people do take their kids out during non-vacation weeks: for thousands of dollars in savings. No harm done while they are little.

Re: School break prices
And this is just one small reason why it sux to be a teacher- we can't just go on vacation anytime we want and we have to pay those huge prices
OH but check out the school calendar for where you are going....it might be break here but sometimes its not in FL or other states. It can impact how crowded places are if there are school field trips- this just happened last week in PA for us.

I totally agree!! Being a teacher is great...until you try to get away for a reasonable price...totally blows! I get tons of emails about great vacations, but not when I can get off.

Re: School break prices
That's why I am one of those bad mommies who will pull my kid out for vacation. he is only in kindergarten, so I'm not too stressed about it. This year we pulled him for spring break because I had a different week off (I'm a dance teacher) But it worked out that they got unused snow days back so he only missed two days. We will also be pulling him the last week of school because they have half days and it's not like they're still going to be teaching lessons that week. It would have been $1500 more for the airfare alone if we waited until school was over.

I would just let the teacher know ahead of time- the last week might be half days BUT it is often used for end or year assessments and finishing up projects and such.

She already knows. She said the last week they're mostly closing down te classroom and they're going to do their end of the year party the week before.

Re: School break prices
I'm not looking forward to it and I do not want my kid to miss a lot of school due to vacations. I really want to go away for Thanksgiving week and I figure that's not so bad when he is in Kindergarten. Does anyone know if Thanksgiving week is at least a bit less expensive than Christmas week. We really want to go to Beaches again but my friend had to spend an extra 4K for Presidents week. That's the price of another vacation!!!!

Re: School break prices
My child has been in school for 8 years, and every single year, the last week is watching movies, etc. This is in two different districts and 3 different schools. I would not hesitate to pull your child out for the last week of school.
As far as Thanksgiving week. The kids are usually off the day before Thanksgiving. So I found it was easy to pull for the 2 days. This past year we traveled on Saturday to FL, and came home ON Thanksgiving. Our flights were very reasonable on Jet Blue. I want to say $225 each (or less). To come home the days after Thanksgiving is astronomical though.

I checked, Christmas was absolutely more money! We changed to thanksgiving week, it was cheaper? We are flying home Friday after thanksgiving from Caribbean

My parents just bought a house in Florida and I am so sad b/c I am never going to be able to go b/c I am a teacher! I just CANNOT justify spending so much more money on airfare and no one wants to drive down with me (including my dh)
