Schools tomorrow?
Do you think schools will be open tomorrow?
I'm wondering how the heck will the busses make it?

Good question.
But they need to be cancelled. How do they expect teachers and students to get there when most side roads haven't even been touched.

I would assume, other than some of the eastern schools, that school is going to be on. Most schools do not want to take anymore days off, since they were off so long for Sandy. There may be delayed openings!

I doubt Sachem will be open. Unless some type of miracle happens out here. Side roads are not even plowed, main roads still have cars stranded on them.

I'm most concerned about the buses...where will the kids stand to wait? In my development, they have only plowed once and its a single lane down the middle of the road. I don't even think that the bus could turn the corners here. Unless they step it up and get plows onto all the streets near here, I can't see how the buses will get through.

The district where I work (small south shore) already gave back 6 days... 3 on each break. I was counting on those vacation days to actually get work done... prepping for the Common Core etc. I'm sure they will be plowed out and school will be on tomorrow.
My kids' private school (North Shore) isn't making up any days. My DH and I already have 6 days of FT child care to cover... btwn Sandy and the Flu we have lost so many days at work, we just can't afford to loose any more. We are in a much larger, hilly district, very well might close, so many side streets are still not plowed.
This has been a very stressful year

My school is in an area that got significantly less snow than me. If school is open, I may not be able to get there. I think in schools in less affected areas, it may be more of an issue of staff getting to work than of road conditions.

REgardless of how much time districts were closed due to Sandy, if it is a danger for students to get to schools, they will likely be closed. It is what it is. Mother Nature is surely showing us who is in control this school year!
