My husband smoked for 15 yrs, I bought him this book and he quit immediately, it's been almost a year now. He's not a big reader, but really took to this book, check out the reviews, people rave about it (not at all affiliated),

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

I have heard success with Chantix.

My bff quit cold turkey and she was a real deal smoker. It has been a year.

Honestly I tried for years, I basically cut down to the point where I only smoked here or there (while drinking, or a cple a day). Then I got my bfp and well..I had to. I hope it sticks.

GOOD LUCK STACEY! I KNOW how hard it is. I honestly think it is mind over matter.....but I was never goos at not giving in here or there so I guess I am not help lolChat Icon

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

I quit cold turkey but when I wanted a cigarette I had one. When I was done, I threw away the pack, most of the time rather full.

Eventually I got sick of literally throwing away that money and I eventually stopped completely.

I know this is gonna sound crazy, but I tried not to think about smoking and not being able to. I just went about my business and eventually I did forget about it.

I honestly couldn't tell you how long I've been smoke free but it's been well over a year, probably closer to two.

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

Thanks again everyone! It really makes me sad how dependent I am on cigs~I am sooo sick of it. When I quit cold turkey, I was miserable. I ordered the patch, so hopefully that will work. I think it's a good sign that I finally REALLY WANT to quit.

Thanks again to all of you!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

I was able to quit using the nicotine lozenges first, and then the e-cig. I have not had a real cig since the end of January.

The key with the ecigs is that you cannot at any time, smoke real cigs and ecigs together. You have to stop the real cigs entirely first, otherwise the ecigs just wont cut it for you.

Another thing about the ecigs is that you have to get good ones, not the cheapo ones they sell in 7-11 or anything like that. I also use flavored cartridges so that now I'm used to that and not the taste of cigs.

Believe me, I used to quit and start up like 2 months later. This is the only thing that helps me at all. Now, the smell of smoke makes me sick and I don't even want a real cig.

The e-cigs I'm using are the vapor 4 life/vapor king kind. They are running a special for 48 hours to get 29% off with the coupon code world29

Good luck!

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

First, good luck and congratulations to all those who are, want to and have quit smoking.

My mom helped my grandma quit smoking. She was a pack a day smoker. She took a mayo jar full of mayo and had my grandma put her used ciggaretts into the jar for a week. So it was 7 packs of smoked ciggaretts. Then every time she wanted to smoke she smelled the opened jar. To a non smoker, that is what most smokers breath smells like. Don't refrigerate it. Leave it on your counter. Then take the money you would have spent on a pack and put it into a jar. Soon you will have quite a bit saved up for a nice vacation or something to reward yourself for not smoking.

Laser therapy. Both MIL and FIL smoked 2 to 3 packs a day and once they never smoked again after walking out of the office after having the laser treatment. I know 2 other people that had the same success.

Did they get the laser in the ear do you know? I'm wondering if they are one in the same?

Re: Serious about quitting smoking-need suggestions please

If you want to take a slower route, you can do what my old roommate did... I don't remember how many a day she was smoking, but let's say 6.

So on jan 1, she cut down to 5 a day, until June 30th. Then July 1 it was down to 4 a day until Dec 31st. On Jan 1st, it was down to 3, etc.

But by the fall, she was smoking less than her daily allowance - she was actually really only smoking socially. She was totally done by about a year and a half and has been smoke free for at least 2 years
