Severe cradle cap

DS is 4 months old and has bad cradle cap. No oil worked - he actually got a bad reaction from it. Looking for a cradle cap shampoo. Anyone know which shampoo for stubborn cradle cap? Thanks!!

Honestly -- my ped swears by head and shoulders. It is the only thing I used on DS as an infant...and he never got cradle cap. My nephew had cradle cap and used H/S and it went away and never came back.
Good luck!

Re: Severe cradle cap

Did you use baby oil? I would pour it on, let it soak in for about 15 mins, take a baby comb and you have to comb it out. I would do ou every other day before bath time. It's gross, painful, and actually gets bloody. Also, it's a process. You don't do it once and then it's done. I'm not sure what shampoo alone would do since you have to comb it out to get rid of it.

Our pediatric dermatologist says not to use baby oil bc its fragranced, powerfully so. He suggested mineral oil which is fragrance free. I use that and the cradle deal brush before bath. Then wash as normal with aquaphor.

Edit. I'm never aggressive with it. It never gets irritated and def doesn't make her bleed. The cradle crap brush is gentle. I go in circles and it gently lifts the flakes.

Severe cradle cap

Both my kids suffered from it, DD worse than DS, she had it on her forehead and eyebrows. Mustela has a cradle cap cream that works amazing called Stelaker. Clears it up and does not come back.

Re: Severe cradle cap

Try a cream or balm, not just an oil. The honest company balm worked on DS. Aquaphor would work too. I disagree with the PP that said it gets bloody. It should not be getting bloody or you are doing something wrong. Don't pick of any bits that are stuck, they will come off when ready. It will leave scars and the hair may not grow back.

I have a friend that told me about this:

http://www.amazon.com/Bella-Gone-Cradle-Baby-Shampoo/dp/B001W03ANQ

she swore by it, but I never had to buy it cause the balm cleared it up. The reviews look good too.

We ended up having to use Head & Shoulders - I tried a bunch of other stuff before including oils, etc., and nothing worked. Head and Shoulders cleared it up fairly quickly.

Not dumb at all -- and yes, the regular adult head and shoulders. Try it, trust me. And it smells so good!

I just let my kids grow out of it. It doesn't hurt them.

This. I was very against it at first because I was worried since it was for kids, chemicals, etc., but our pediatrician assured us it was totally fine. I'm glad I did it because his cradle cap was getting worst and this made it better fairly quickly.

Severe cradle cap

I just used olive oil and combed it out.

I also disagree about making it bloody-Dd never bled from it. The cradle cap doesn't harm them-I wouldn't pick it to the point of bleeding!

I used Bella B Bee Gone Cradle Cap Baby Shampoo for my DD. It worked great. Got it from Amazon.

My son had it as a baby and we didn't do anything for it; he grew out of it after a month or so. He got a recurrence before turning 4, and the Stelaker, combined with the Bean b Clean cradle cap brush, and the Mustela Foam Shampoo for Newborns cleared it up in a week.

The only thing that worked for dd was a medicated cream from the Dr. Cleared it up within 72 hours. She had it bad too.

DD has it pretty bad as well. Ped said baby oil, let it soak in and gently brush out then shampoo.

I tried it last night and it help a little. The front of her head did get a little pink but no blood and it went away quickly.

The urge to pick at it is overwhelming- I know that's gross but it takes everything in me sometimes to not try and peel it off!

Yes, it comes back. It needs to be repeated. With my now 6 mo DS it took us a while, maybe a month or even more. I have mama brain and don't remember!

Just keep at it and it will end and stop coming back.

Good to know. We always use the baby oil per our pediatrician and never had any issues but if there's something more gentle, I'm all for it. What mineral oil do you use? Is it specifically for babies? Also, no idea there was a cradle cap brush! Will definitely have to look into that.

This. Our pediatrician suggested H&S classic and it worked.
