severely constipated baby
DS is 7 mo. for hte past week/10 days, he's been pooping little hard black balls (sorry if timi). he is pbvioulsy uncomfortable- he pushes, grunts, and has been crankier. I EBF, no formula, we never had any issues. I was giving prune juice- been making his cereal with prune juice (oatmeal, no rice), since he wont take a bottle form me. also tried it in a sippy. babysitter did get him to take a prune juice bottle, but its not helping. I cant find jarred baby prunes anywhere near me I called ped on thursday, he told me to give him senna. I gave it yesterday and today, still not helping. He eats- BM, and fruit in am- usually pears, or the pear/apple/apricot combo, and in pm has chicken iwth either sweet potato or butternut squash he also eats gerber puffs, which i am going to cut out, i just saw they are made form rice. he gets a sippy with water with both meals, but he doesnt drink much- maybe 1-2 ounces any ideas? woudl you call ped back yet?

Re: severely constipated baby
i would call the ped back. My ped told me to mix some benefiber in with DD water and it really helped....but ask your ped first!
eta: we did the prunes and all that and nothing worked but the benefiber. i still do this to this day if she doesnt go for two days or so. i couldnt imagine 10 days poor baby

Re: severely constipated baby
DS started getting constipated at this time. We went through EVERYTHING. I do remember the doctor saying not to be concerned unless he doesn't go at all for 5 straight days at least. (Nuggets sort of count.)
Try to move his legs like he is on a bicycle. Put him on his back and do it for about 10 minutes a few times per day. Also, put him on his back and rub his belly gently from the left hip, over the belly button and down to the right hip. (Semi-circle) It aids in digestion.
Before trying any new foods or supplements, always check with the dr.
