Shady or not? Car related
So I am in the market for a new car. I called the dealer to have him crunch some numbers for me
like how much it would be for a lease with 15k miles a year versus how much it would be to finance
He called me back a few times to ask me some additional questions and now he just called me and said "the manager has something worked out for you, come on down tonight and we can talk about it"
I asked him for the numbers and he would not give it to me, just kept saying "come down and we can discuss it"
Is that wierd or normal operating procedures?

Pretty standard for car dealers.. they want you in the showroom. Call him back and tell him you can't make it tonight. He can either give you the numbers over the phone or you can call another dealer who can...

they want to get you in so they can sell you!!
do you know what your interest rate would be if you finance?? I can tell you how much your payment would be.
But for leasing, they can do so many things to get the payment to change (lease rate; residual value) that its hard to tell, and thats why I hate leasing!

Yea - they are doing it so they can pressure you to do something.
I would call back and tell them the reason you did it over the phone was because you can't get down there.
If he still is not willing then tell him you will call Xxxxxx dealership instead and have them do it for you

He def wants to sell you.
But in all honesty, I would just go down there and haggle him to death until he gives me the numbers I want or I'll walk.
Go to edmunds.com and price out your car with the options you want so you're prepared and know how much this car really costs..

can you do it for a 22k loan for me, pretty please   thanks
I think he said they had a special rate of 2.9% for 60 months

totally normal..I was in "internet" car sales..the goal was still to get them into the show room.
DEFINITELY negotiate the price of the car....THEN work on the payments..with the lease and fiance you end up having no idea what you're actually paying
