Sharp, lasting pain in one spot on lower right abdomen (plus pain in back in corresponding spot)- normal?

So this morning, as I was walking from the parking lot across the street from my office, I became aware of a sharp pain in *one* spot in my lower right abdomen

(about halfway between belly button and hip bone

and about two inches above top of bikini line)

as well as a pain in the same spot on my back (which I've heard back pain can be associated with contractions).

These pains were making it difficult to walk - which is what scared me. It was intense for about 15 minutes, then started to subside.

I still felt kind of off, though, with other less intense achiness.

A few hours later, the pain in that spot came back, although less intensely.

**Have you ever had this type of pain? Is it normal?

This is my first pregnancy. I am 17w3d with twins.


I called my OB office after the first incident and spoke with a nurse who automatically said it's round ligament pain.....but they always say everything is round ligament pain and I've felt LOTS of variety of different pains, some of which did feel like what I think would make sense for round ligament pain to feel like (more around the lower edges of bikini line),

but this was different.

She said I could come in if I felt necessary. So maybe I will. I just don't want to take the time/effort to drive there (30 mins) and probably sit uncomfortably in the waiting room for hours if they're just going to tell me in person that it's freaking round ligament pain!!

Especially if it would be more helpful to just rest. I went home sick from work and am all propped up in bed with my boppy, next to my dog. DH is coming home early just in case (but still won't be here for a while b/c he's coming from Manhattan.)


Oh, the nurse also said it could also just be uterus stretching. I had a quick ultrasound on Tues on a very poor quality u/s machine and babies were doing fine (meaning moving around, they didn't take any measurements or anything.)

Thank God I haven't had any bleeding, spotting, unusual vaginal discharge, or vaginal pressure. Also, the pain is not from constipation.

Thoughts overall?

How was your urine? was it cloudy?

I had sharp pains too around 15 weeks and i went to the ER and found out i had a kidney infection.

For me the pain kept getting worse as time went on

Yikes, glad they caught your kidney infection!!

My urine is clear.
The pain has gotten a little less now that I'm resting.

I have had sharp pains in lower abdomen throughout this pregnancy. Mine feel almost like a cramp I get when I run when a little dehydrated or ate too much too close to running.

Does it feel like one of those cramps? I get them when i'm not even active, they last about 5-10 minutes. I get a feeling like if I massage or push on it, it will subside but it doesn't.

If this is similar, doctor said it's normal.
