she hurt my feelings

So DH and I went out to dinner with another couple the other night, when she asked me if we picked a name for our . When we told her what we picked she she made a face like she had just bitten into a lemon and was like" are you serious?".

When we told her we were totally serious she started backpedeling not really knowing what to say. I laughed it off, but i was very hurt and started questioning my choice of name.

As it is I was reluctant to tell anybobdy because this is exactly what happened with my DD name.

Ugh, forget about her Melissa...for as much as everyone thinks they have a clue how to act in all social situations, no one seems to. This is exactly why I am telling NO ONE when we eventually do start talking about names. It must feel like she is insulting your personal taste, AND potentially your baby too. It's not like someone would wrinkle their nose at your three year old and asy "ew, that's what his name is???" but they seem to feel that it is more acceptable if you have not yet delivered. Blah to people.

I'm sure it is a kickass name.

whgat she shoudl have done was walk away and say to someone other than you.......is she serious? To her it was a crazy name. But who cares what it is to her. To you it's a lovely name and that's what matters.
Some people really don't know how to act.
Your DD's name is different but that is exactly what you wabnted ti to be. You didn't want her to have a name that 4 others girls will have in her class. and b/c it's different not everyone is going to like it. I can totally appreciate a different name! if it were me that you met, I would have said "oh, wow! that's different. Good for you!"

My mother did that on Thanksgiving with our current girl name choice. My view - she (my mom) had 4 kids and 4 opportunities to pick a name, now it's my turn!

Yeah we are running into a lot of people not like a name that we are considering for a boy. My husband told me he doesnt even want me to discuss names with anyone anymore because of their reaction. i really dont care what anyone else thinks of what we choose but it is SO RUDE for them to make a face or to express dislike. When I told his sister the name she actually said "you are not serious are you?". People just have no clue. I can't wait to say the same thing back to her when she is considering names!

Don't let her make you feel bad. She was stupid for saying anything and should in no way make you second guess your decision.

I told my sister and she said that it's also a popular dog's name. I told her she was a b*tch (which is true for that comment). It's obnoxious when people make comments about name selections. I've learned to just tell people that "we're keeping it between us - you'll find out when she's born."

People have made lots of faces at the name we picked for our We are going to name her Chelsea and if I had a dollor for everytime someone said something about Bill or Hilary Clinton I'd have her college education paid for!

DO NOT let her take anything away from you!! If you and your DH like that name, then thats what you name him..

It makes me mad when people do this.. DH and I decided our next child we arent sharing our thoughts on names to anyone for this reason.. People SU**!!

That is the exact reason why we decided not to tell anyone the names we pick, we don't want other peoples opinions.

Who cares - it's not her baby and if you love it - that's what matters. People always have an opiinion that why my DH gets so mad when I start to tell people the names we like.
