Odd I was just looking in Newsday and on page A4 they have a list of do's and don'ts.
One of them is-
DON"T tape windows or remove air conditioners from windows. Chat Icon

Not sure why...they didn't explain.

Weather channel just said not to remove air conditioners from windows as long as they are secure.

Thank God! I'm glad to hear this. Ours are extremely secure (knock on wood) and are therefore annoying and almost impossible to get out!

Yeah DH who likes to live in a tundra environment looked at me like I was a nut when I asked if he should take them out. He was like- it's hot as ballz- no way!

He screws them in pretty well for security purposes so I think they will be ok

We took ours out. I wasn't worried about the actual units going anywhere, but those flimsy accordian things on the sides I could see splitting in a second! Then there would be water coming in where the sides should be!

I read that somewhere else too, and I don't know why.

Re: Should I be removing window unit A/Cs? Is this neccessary in a storm like this?

I was just thinking this before I saw this thread! I told DH and then he yelled at me saying it's a PITA to do this. Then I saw this thread and decided that he's going to have to do it! It seriously took 15 minutes. I'd rather him waste 15 minutes for nothing than our windows blow out from the AC and we are inconvenienced for days!
