My dd's preschool lets her go an extra day if there is something special happening on that day. They don't charge us extra.

I would question, explain the story and then if they don't waiver, simply pay without making a fuss.

I agree. They should have been more clear. They could have said, "yes, she can come, but for the picnic only", or "she can come the picnic day instead of her regular day", or "yes, she can come, but we will have to charge you for an extra day." Any of which would be the correct way to handle business.

I don't think you're wrong to want to question it, but at the end of the day it could have been miscommunication on either end. If it were me, I would ask about it, but I'd still pay if they asked.

My nanny is taking her soon and she has the money. She is going to ask, and of course pay them if they say we owe them. When DH gave the nanny the money this morning she was shocked and said that when she asked about bringing DD for the picnic that the school never mentioned bringing her only for the picnic or paying for the day - they said bring her that day and her regular days. Will update with the school's response after drop off!

As an update, my nanny gave them the money and asked why we were charged. The teacher took the money and said she would look into it. When the nanny picked DD up they gave her the money back and said there was a misunderstanding, so it all worked out!

Good! That's what I meant by maybe it was an oversight. Perhaps they didn't even realize it was a special event. Or maybe someone didn't communicate that they had told your nanny to bring your daughter, and someone else charged. Either way, it worked out.

Great!!

And I'm with you, I would've been annoyed. Mostly that they didn't tell me up front. My dd goes to daycare part time and they will let us switch days if there is a special event. It goes a long way in building a good relationship.
