Show me your flower beds

Because it was so beautiful this weekend and the Hub will be leaving in a few weeks for Afghanistan, we decided to get started on the yard early. We pulled up all last years mulch, put down all new weed block and new mulch (boy what a jobChat Icon).

Now I have a blank slate and although I know I should wait a few weeks to plant anything I would like to start planning. Unfortunately, I know nothing about flower beds.

I'd love to get some general ideas and "rules of thumb" when it comes to planting.

Please post pics of your flower beds currently or from previous years.

TIA!!

Re: Show me your flower beds

I don't have any pics but, I wanted to add that Hicks flower show was last week.. I don't know if they still have it set up. There were some GREAT ideas there. And it's free.

A good rule.. that I didn't follow and then had to re-arrange perrenials is to put taller stuff in the back and work your way down. I guess it depends if you like the cottage style or a very neat garden.

You can find some nice pics on Spring Hill websites.. heck they even sell whole gardens so you don't have to do the thinking.

Try to plant things with varying bloom times so that you have color all summer.
Also annuals are pretty but, can get pricey so try to stick with the plants that come back every year. Plus you can plant some of those now. Link to spring hills garden section
