Shower Dilemma

I live on LI, but grew up in MD. I live about as far east on the island as you can get, so in the summer it's a 6 hour drive to my parents. As I did with my wedding, I will have two showers, one in NY with DH's side and one in MD. My mom just assumed it would be the end of the summer or after the summer, as I'm due October 12th. Also, most of my relatives summer at the MD and DE shores, so its hard to get them all in Baltimore during the summer. But I don't feel comfortable going down there too late. I was thinking August 6 or 13, my mom is acting like this is too soon. What week would be the latest you'd feel comfortable traveling 6 hours away?

Re: Shower Dilemma

Honestly, I was such a baby about stuff. I wouldn't feel comfortable traveling that far after my 2nd trimester. Maybe somewhere between 26 & 28 weeks. Definitely not past 30 weeks. But I don't do well in the car when I'm not pregnant, so I would've been way worse then.

You have to be comfortable. Maybe ask your OB? Then you can say "my doctor said X" and you don't have to make the decision yourself and your mom will understand (hopefully).

Re: Shower Dilemma

Thanks girls! I'll be 30 weeks right before the weekend of August 6th so that is what I'll probably suggest. I'll talk to my doctor on Tuesday as well.

Re: Shower Dilemma

I am currently living OOS (7 hours) and my entire family is on LI. My shower was when I was 3 days shy of 30 weeks. My doctor advised me not to go more than an hour from home after the 34 week mark.

Re: Shower Dilemma

I just went 4 hours away (if no traffic) for 1 night. I am 32 weeks. I probably would go up to 6 hours up to 36 weeks. This is my first baby though so I really have no clue if this is even ok!
