Re: Shower in a house or in a restaurant
Here is my honest opinion b/c I've been a guest at both in home and restaurant showers.
If you hare having more than 25 people and it's not beautiful and warm out - go to a restaurant. Nothing is worse then having to plant yourself in someone's home on a chair (if you can get one) unable to move. If you have a spacious yard where you can put 5 or 6 tables comfortably and have 4 or 5 in the house comfortably (notice the key word) then go for it. Anything larger, save the money by doing less expensive favors and glitz and glam and do it in a restaurant. Somone's back will thank you and I'm sure your guests will have a better time. I may be jaded as I recently attended an in-house shower where I was elbowed in the gut a few times and when I sit people couldn't see I was pregnant so they expected me to move my chair in so they can get around me, there definitely was not a chair for every guest. It also has to be a b**ch to clean up after a large gathering like that. Also, restaurant bathrooms usually have a few stalls so you don't have 50 women in line for your first floor toilet! Also fun when you have pregnant guests. I personally also never stay beyond 4 hours, by then either I've been sitting or standing too long. At a restuarant everyone has a seat if they like or they can get up and mingle. Sometimes you have to shop around for a restaurant, but I honestly cringe when I see invitations that say that a party will be at a house... I even missed a party recently for that reason, being pregnant I'm not in the mood to be a sardine and I know the person has a large home, but people tend to stay in one or 2 rooms and it's winter so going outside isn't really an option. Overall my vote is for restaurants for the bigger stuff.
My shower shouldn't be more than 15 people so if my mom wants to do it in her house then fine, she has a large home and she said she'd board the dog. But I will tell you that the baby's welcoming party and first birthday will be at restaurants.

Re: Shower in a house or in a restaurant
For my babyshower, it was at a restaurant because we had over 100 guests.

Re: Shower in a house or in a restaurant
I feel too crowded and rushed in a restaurant. I had my bridal shower in the house and had such a nice time.

Re: Shower in a house or in a restaurant
My mom has no room in her house at all!!!!!! Even if she did, there would no way she would be able to cater to all the people we plan on inviting. (Our guestlist is around 70 people)
We have a rather large family.. both on my side as well as DH. Thats why we are having it at a restaurant.

Re: Shower in a house or in a restaurant
I wanted mine in my best friends house but my boyfriend told me he wants it at a place where you can sit down and be served lunch. We'll see which one it turns out to be.
