Shower Questions

My stepsister is also pg and is due May 6th. My other stepsister just sent out an email that she wants to plan the shower for Sunday April 5th (which is Palm Sunday) around 2 or 3pm . She will be 36 weeks pregnant.

Just to give you a little background, my pg stepsister will be traveling from Westbury LI to Greenwich, CT for the shower (about 40 mins drive). Her DH's family is also on LI so they will also have to drive to Greenwich, CT. Our family is mostly in CT so I don't think the drive will be more than 30 mins for anyone.

My questions are:

Do you think that 36 weeks is too close to her due date and doesn't give her enough time to buy any last minute items off her registry?

Do you think that Palm Sunday is a bad idea?

TIA!

Re: Shower Questions

yes to both in my opinion....

36 weeks - she might not be up for a drive that long, you never know, she could be on bedrest....and as you said - it gives her no time to get last minute things....

palm sunday - some people may NOT appreciate that date....while others likely won't mind at all...

Re: Shower Questions

I personally would prefer to have the shower a little earlier.

My shower is scheduled for when I am 33 weeks and I am so anxious and impatient that I cannot complete my nursery.

Re: Shower Questions

My opinion is

A - Palm Sunday is a bad idea unless the families are not Christian - People celebrate Palm Sunday .........
B - 36 weeks is cutting it kind of close -

Re: Shower Questions

I had my sisters shower when she was 36 weeks. Actually, she picked the date (she's a doctor and needed to have it scheduled around her hospital schedule). She was fine with it, and pretty much got everything she needed.

As far as Palm Sunday.. I have no idea, since I'm Jewish. I don't know the significance of it.

Re: Shower Questions

I would try to do it sooner if possible. A lot of people might not want to go on Palm sunday esp if you have anybody who is religious. For me it wouldn't be an issue but some of your older guest might not appreciate it.

As far as the mother is concerned. At 36 weeks I was really uncomfortable. I would try to do it sooner I think 28-34 weeks is a good time. It b.c it is still early, it gives the mother time to open and set up any of the gifts she will need for the baby etc. Besides if she goes early 36 weeks could be cutting it close - and of course if she has any complications she could be on bed rest by that time.

Re: Shower Questions

Yes to both -- I think a lot of people will have family plans on Palm Sunday (I know we always do) and I think she is going to be very large and tired by 36 weeks.

I would try and plan it earlier, but that's just my opinion.

Re: Shower Questions

wouldnt have on palm sunday just b/c theres a chance alot of people will decline the invitation.

36 weeks ..i think is kinda late, b/c most mommies to be would like to get the nursery finished up by then. I think it will be a stressful time for her to have her shower. I would try and do earlier.

Re: Shower Questions

I agree - Yes to both.

36 weeks is way too late IMO. We had mine around 32 and that was perfect timing.

Re: Shower Questions

I personally think 36wks is cutting it close. I'm not very religious, but some people might have a problem with it being on palm sunday.
