Sippy cups with straws, and a question...**added 2 more questions..lol**

When did you use this? By chance over the weekend, DS drank from a straw, and we were a little surprised that he actually did it, because he is not a fan of the sippy cup.

So, did you go from bottle to sippy with straw? Did anyone just skip over the sippy cup?

i'm a speech therapist... and i would say if your DS can drink out of a straw or straw cup rather than a sippy, then just go with it Chat Icon
the staw cups and straws use a more mature muscle pattern and can help with good speech developement and development of the mouth muscles.
so thats great that your DS could do it-- i would keep up with it Chat Icon

Thank you all for your help! I am also curious...is it okay to put his formula in it? He is only 8 months, but he loved it..too young?

Re: Sippy cups with straws, and a question...

I randomly bought one for DD at 6 months or so. I was so surprised when she drank from it instantly. I have been given her water from these sippy cups since. DD is BF so we haven't given her milk in it yet. Just water. I would try given DS formula now...so that you can eventually eliminate bottles.

DD drank from a straw early on too. We didn't start giving her the straw sippy until about 10 months though. Now at 1 year old she prefers this over regular sippy cups... for the last week or so she's been only drinking out of the straw sippy. But, she'll only take water or juice in it... not milk. All of the SLPs I work with (I teach special ed) say the exact same thing - that using a straw is developmentally more advanced for oral motor skills than a regular sippy cup. Abby NEVER drank from a regular sippy cup. Ironically, her articulation is damn good for a 2 year old.
