SIRM question

I am considering going to SIRM (Cornell patient) and now treating my immune issues with DR B.

I am not impressed with AFS so I am thinking of staying with Cornell or going to SIRM for my IVF.....anyone know their IVF w/ICSI prices?

I am all out of pocket and was wondering how much they charge for a cycle.

TIA!!!

Re: SIRM question

The quote I was given as an insurance patient with ICSI is $13,365. There could be another price for out of pocket patients. ICSI was included in that price and listed as costing $2,5000...BUT...it is my understanding that the ICSI fee is waived for many as they ICSI all embryos unless you expressly state that you do not want it. Just get whatever they tell you in writing when it comes to ICSI as I know of at least one person that had an an issue with the ICSI fee. You can check the SIRM boards as I am pretty sure that I've seen Dr. T say that the ICSI was included for free...it might be dependent upon the age of the patient. Not sure.

Re: SIRM question

It may come out more than Cornell to cycle at SIRM with no coverage, as even with no IVF coverage, if you have out of network, you get the BW and Sonos back from insurance with Cornell's claim forms, which came out to $3,000 back for me.

Thank you ladies....

I pay 11,400 w/ICSI at Cornell and get about 7,500 back from insurance (after I submit the claims)...so SIRM is about 13-14K?? yikes.....

AFS is only 9,200 but still not impressed so I guess I will be going back to Cornell....

If you get $7,500 from Cornell, you must have some IVF insurance to get that, so maybe you would get some reimbursement from SIRM? When I went to Cornell with no insurance, I got the BW and sonos back, which came out to around $3,000. But got nothing else back because everything else was considered IVF procedures.

Just double check as I have heard that the rate for out of pocket patients may be lower. This is the full rate they quoted in my paperwork but I am an insurance patient. Just an FYI..the actual cycle rate was $9,715.00. Just make sure that you are comparing apples to apples as the additional fees were for anesthesia, ICSI and a facility fee. If they waive the ICSI fee, it would be about the same as Cornell except that if you get $7,000 back there and will not at SiRM..kind of makes the decision a lot easier!! Don't get me wrong, I doubt the price I gave you is off by much, but you might want to check. I would write their office manager Jessica and ask to be certain.

Re: SIRM question

That's the thing, since I do get back about 7,500 from the 11,400 fee the cost is minimal....

I don't have any more IVF coverage since I maxed out my 20K lifetime but the way Cornell codes the procedures (I begged them to do that), shows as medical procedures and not fertility treatments....that is why I get that much back...

Not sure SIRM would do that for me, so it becomes complicated...

Thank you for the responses ladies...I will email Dr T or post on their board to see how much a cycle is for a person without insurance.

Everyone has their own personal experience and mine was really bad at SIRM. I was a patient of Dr. Ts and he couldn't even remember the protocol I was on never mind my name! They had me on 750 iu of Gonal-f for 8 days with no monitoring and I ovulated before they could do retrieval because they forgot to tell me to start ganirelix. Then, Dr. T immediately suggested that I do DE even though I hadn't even had a retrieval.

I am now with Dr. B and even though I am not yet pregnant I have had a few retrievals with a few eggs. I absolutley love the monitoring process at AFS and the sono tech, Olga, is the best at explaining what I am looking at on the screen. Each time I have done a retrieval I get a personal call from the embryologist at AFS the following morning giving me the fertility report. Both REs have done my ERs and have been great. I really can't say enough about them. I even went for blood work this morning and there is no monitoring on Thursdays but they took me anyway.

Sorry so long, but I have had the best experience at AFS either with or without a baby to show for it.

Wow!! Sounds like a completely different person...but your experience was terrible. I absolutely love Dr. T and think the world of him and his lab/embryologist. He got 16 eggs, 13 mature with 100% fertilization my First IVf with him and got 16 eggs, 11 mature and 10 fertilzed this go-round and we intentionally lowered my stims...and I am 44!! Needless to say..I will not be changing doctors anytime soon. Chat Icon

Bottom line, if something or someone is not working for you...get the heck out!! It doesn't really matter what the experience of others is. If you lose trust in a doctor or lab, you will forever question what they do. There are enough good doctors out here that you should be able to move on and find your perfect fit. I did and am so glad that I found Dr. T.

thanks for your input. I am happy with AFS so far as well, and I was also taken in on the day when there was no monitoring. Good luck to you!

If you go to SART, AFS statistics are bothersome. They are way below the average. I also read some really bad reviews on the old ivfconnections board.

for now i am doing IUIs, do those stats apply?

The stats apply to IVF, but they speak to the possible quality of the lab. With an IUI it should not be a big issue as they only really have to wash the sperm and possibly freeze and unfreeze sperm samples..I would think that these things are done fairly easily and simply by most labs including AFS.

Re: SIRM question

Ladies, thank you so much for your replies.

I just found out that Dr B is moving to a different clinic so no need for me to go to AFS which I did not want to go to.

I think I will stick with Dr B for immune issues and stay with Cornell since I do get back a nice amount of money from insurance or maybe give his new clinic a try since it has a much better SART results and is more known.
