Sitting in the backseat
Up until what age did you sit in the backseat with your baby? Thanks

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I sat in the backseat for the ride home from the hospital and anytime DD needed a bottle - otherwise I sat in the front.
I did not want her to get used to me being in the back.

And I wonder why my daughter is spoiled rotten? I STILL sit in the backseat with my 20 month old. DH said yesterday we're going to have to stop.

Really????????
I never sat in the backseat, it didn't even cross my mind to - unless of course one of them was crying hysterically.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
What? I'm sorry, but If you are concerned about what is going on back there (which is usually nothing), you can get a mirror that can be tethered down to keep an eye on them. With it tethered down it can't fly off in an accident (like I've seen others post).
I just can't imagine riding in the back with the baby. It's not like you can take them out of the seat in a moving vehicle if they fuss. I don't know anyone that has ever done that.

That's the problem - she's always crying hysterically, so I always sat back there with her. I am starting to see the light - I'm seriously contributing to my daughter's delinquency

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I still do and my DD is 15mths. The reason we do it is my daughter HATES her car seat...she has hated it forever and the only way to get her to stop crying at least for a little bit is for me to sit back there and amuse her. It works for us as we would not be able to drive with her constantly whining etc. I know LOTS of moms who do this...not that strange at all.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
To answer the OPs question, I rode in the back on the way home from the hospital, and then once on a long road trip with Sarah I sat in the back when she was awake to play with her.

While I know they are marketed as a safety tool, I know for a fact that they very easily come undone in an accident. My brother has been a first responder to several accidents where the mirror most definately flew off and injured the baby.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
Just curious, what does everyone that sits in the back do when their DH isn't with them? Or do you just not go anywhere?

If they came off that easily, they wouldn't alllow car seats to be tethered. I'm specifially talking about mirrors strapped to "tethers' not mirrors velcroed or strapped to the seats.

I'll drive, but she'll cry the whole time. It's not pretty. It used to be worse - got better for a little while, and now it's bad again. It's stupid for me to sit in the back, because even when I'm back there she cries anyway

Never did...except on the way home from the hospital. I figured if I was driving and the only other person in the car he would have to get used to it!

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I think DW only did once, when we drove to NJ with DS when he was about 6 months. It was a long trip, and that way, DW could feed him, as well as occupy him. We never did with any trips in Suffolk County. Now, with 2 car seats, it's impossible, so it's no longer an issue...

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I sit in the back with DD (14 months) when DH drives. When mom and I go out we take turns sitting with her since we both love to sit with her The only time she is back there alone is if just her and I are out. She is rear facing, maybe when she is forward facing it will be different, not sure...

I vowed to never do this. I can't stand it for some reason. IMO Mom and Dad should be in front and kids in the back.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
DH always wants to sit next to DD in the car which is cute.. until he keeps leaning over and entertaining her and she doesn't fall asleep! He does it just because he likes being near her, but otherwise DD is fine in her seat (luckily for us)..
I also probably watch her in the mirror WAY too much when driving lol..
