What? I'm sorry, but If you are concerned about what is going on back there (which is usually nothing), you can get a mirror that can be tethered down to keep an eye on them. With it tethered down it can't fly off in an accident (like I've seen others post).
I just can't imagine riding in the back with the baby. It's not like you can take them out of the seat in a moving vehicle if they fuss. I don't know anyone that has ever done that.
Maybe I am reading wrong, but you don't sound so nice in this post. There are some people who have babies who cry if they are alone or some people who don't feel comfortable leaving their baby by themself in the back if they don't have to. I am not one of them, but to at someone who is just asking a question is unacceptable. That's very rude! Just because you dont' do it doesn't mean that nobody should.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I think I only have twice. Once on the way home from the hospital and the second on the way home from MIL's when she was a crying mess from not sleeping.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I asked this question recently too.
I have always sat in the back with Megan. I just felt more comfortable in doing so. She was always fine but I wanted her to look around and know that I was right there for her. SHe is 9 months old now and still rear facing of course. I sit back there if its a long ride. When we turn the seat around, I will sit up front again.

I haven't.
I would probably only sit in back for a ride of over an hour.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
It was hard to sit in the backseat when I was driving...
I never sat in the backseat...maybe when we were coming home from the hospital...but never after that.

I'm a very nice person :) I just find it humorous that there are parents that actually ride in the backseat with their children. Of course after seeing some of the reasons, a child that won't stop crying, a child that needs to be fed, well I can see why SOME do it. Those that do it just because they won't let their children out of their sight, well I dunno, I find that odd. But that's the beauty of the internet, everyone has their own opinions on things and not everyone always agrees with everyone

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I did on the way home from the hospital and if she needs a bottle. I never wanted her to expect someone to be back there with her because most of the time its just her and me and I have to drive.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
Going home from the hospital and when my MIL and SIL were visiting and MIL wanted to sit in the front seat.
Honestly it is a personal choice, but I drive solo A LOT and I didn't want him to get too used to having company back there.

While I know they are marketed as a safety tool, I know for a fact that they very easily come undone in an accident. My brother has been a first responder to several accidents where the mirror most definately flew off and injured the baby.
This is why I don't have one, and I also don't need the distraction- when I am driving, I really want my eyes on the road the whole time. DD does fine back there by herself when I drive with her alone.
BUT I ride in the back with her and will have to until she is out of the infant seat- the installer told us that the front passenger seat should not touch the base- so it's so far up that my knees would be right under my chin.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I ride in the back. DH doesn't mind at all. At first he questioned if it was fair to Josh that sometimes he had me and in the back and for solo trips he was lonely.
I like tending to him. I like to know if its too hot or cold back there. If he drops a toy, I can reach it. He was a backseat whiner. I also feed him back there. When he is forward facing, I don't think I will sit in the back any longer.
When we got the carseat installed, we were strongly advised not to get the mirror. It is a driving distraction.

Re: Sitting in the backseat
I'll sit in the back with him after a doctors appt or he needs to be fed, otherwise I sit up front....We have a mirror and we can see him and he can see us.
I don't think its a big deal either way though, a personal preference. I don't think when riding in a car there should be assigned seats, if you feel more comfy sitting in the back with dc then do it

Only on the way home from the hospital when he was born and our two visits to the hospital with RSV I did it both ways to watch him struggle for air!

Re: Sitting in the backseat
My daughter is also very fussy on long car rides. I let her fuss & cry usually. If I know she's hungry & needs a bottle, or is really upset, then I'll go back there for a few minutes to help her with a bottle or try to calm her down.
She's still pretty bad at self-soothing & we're trying to work on that. She needs to learn on her own. It's hard but I don't want her to become dependent.
