Slowest flow nipple
What nipple on the market right now has the slowest flow for a newborn? DD who's 2 wks old is currently fed on breastmilk out of a bottle and sometimes when she's REALLY hungry, I noticed that she sucks really fast and get some air in her too that she spits up after. We are currently using the Dr. Brown glass bottles and I think their newborn nipples flow really fast for breast milk. I read that Avent newborn nipples are the slowest...is that true?

Re: Slowest flow nipple
I recall seeing that Dr. Browns had premie nipples when DS was using bottles....maybe they still do? I would assume that it is a much slower flow. HTH

Re: Slowest flow nipple
Preemie nipples are probably faster than regular nipples. They are usually a softer material (makes it easier to express the milk out with less effort) and have either a bigger hole OR a "y" cut and pinhole (again making it easier to get milk out with less effort. This makes the flow faster, not slower.
Dr. Brown's tend to be on the faster flow side, born free fall right in them middle and I believe Avent are the slowest.
2 feeding therapists out of Washington actually did a study on this and rigged up all the bottles/nipples to a breast pump and measured to see flow rate.
(For the record, I'm a feeding therapist not just a nerd. That makes me a nerdy feeding therapist I guess).

Re: Slowest flow nipple
I tried Avent, Born Free and Playtex and they all seemed to be about the same to me...so we're using Playtex (drop ins) since they are much much easier to clean.
You might just need to take the bottle out of her mouth every now and then to give her a break and slow the feeding down a bit
