So annoyed with Doc's Office
The lab that they used for the ultrascreen @ 12 weeks & the follow up blood work @ 16 weeks is not covered by my insurance. So now I have to pay $100 for the 12 week test & $400 for the 16 week test. They could have used 3 other labs, but they had to use the only one that my insurane does not pay for!!!!!
ETA: I am on Long Island, Suffolk County

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
are you in NY? this is NST right? well then you shouldn't have to pay more than $125 for the quad screen at 16 weeks (that's what it said on my bill)... i would call to speak with their billing department. sorry
do you know why it's not covered by insurance?
ETA: as far as i know it's not your doctor's office's fault... this lab is the only lab that does these tests. at least that's what i was told. sorry you have to deal with this.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
That stinks! They should have given you a list with the participating labs. I have GHI and they just changed all the labs I can use. maybe you can fight it since they did not inform you.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
Its not the test they are not paying for, it the lab that the blood work was sent to. My insurance does not pay for that specific lab - Lenetix Medical Screening. My regular blood work normaly goes to Quest Labs which is covered by my insurance.
I don't know why they did not just use Quest or one of the other labs that my insurance covers......
ETA: I checked out all of the labs that my insurance covers & they all do these tests including Quest. There are too many pregnant women walking around for there to only be one lab that does these tests....

If it is NST you might not actually have to pay it. I got a bill from them for my ultrascreen, called my insurance only to be told that they do not cover lab work from NST. So, i called my Dr. office peeved, asking why they sent it to this lab when my insurance didn't cover it. Turns out that NST never submitted the claim to my insurance and I was assured that plenty of people who use my insurance have had lab bills covered from NST. Try having the claims resubmitted and even if they are denied, you can still appeal.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
My doctors office used LabCorp and my insurance covered it. Then when I had to do my glucose the doctors office informed me that my insurance will not cover LabCorp anymore however they would fully cover me on any blood work I have done with Quest. I said sign me up for Quest. I would much rather Quest and glad to know your office will use them and my insurance covers it.
I would talk to the billing department and even your insurance company because the doctors office should have at least advised you of which lab would be used and if coverage was available.
I hope everything works out for you

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
I had a similar situation, my doc's office sent me to Quest to do my AFP blood work and Quest is treated as an out of network provider therefore all of it was not covered. I just took those bills right to my doc's office as they sent me and they were able to speak to a rep and get them to accept what the insuance sent and I did not have to pay a balance.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
The same thing just happened to me! I get this bill for almost $200 because of the lab the ultrascreen bloodwork was sent to. I have to call my insurance tomorrow because I think it's crazy and I shouldn't have to pay it.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
I would call your doctors office - and talk to the person in billing. And see what they can do.
I am not sure if you had this stuff done in your doctors office or not - but your doctors office should have a list of who you are covered under and not.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
Just wanted to let you know I called my insurance and the lab. Have the lab resubmit the claim to your insurance company. That is what I was told to do. Hopefully this pertains to you as well.

Re: So annoyed with Doc's Office
I had a similar problem with the horrible OB I used before I switched (not the reason I switched.) All my first-visit, required blood work was sent to some lab I never heard of, and i was billed over $700!!! I am still fighting with them and that doctor's office.
