Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Just curious.
I mean don't get me wrong I understand the need to see the doc and all and if anything went wrong I'd be jumping down their throats..
BUT EVERY MONTH?!
How am I supposed to take maternity leave if I use all my personal/sick days before I even give birth??!
I have my u/s and doc appt both for the 29th, figured I'd double up.
From now on that doc and I are gonna have to work out late night appts only. I need my days off!!!
I thought maybe every six weeks or so but every month? THEN every two weeks!?
Am I the only one?
I know its my first so maybe I just don't understand.
Anyone, Comments, Please..
Update: Ok, so I just scheduled my entire pregnancy up to the last 6 weeks. They gave me 6pm appts all the way through July. Now if only I could figure out the u/s. That’s next.
So far I have my 12wk u/s set for Feb 29th.

If you're not getting a sono each time why are we going? what do they do at those visits?

Wait until it's every week.
Seriously, I made all my regular check ups for after work . I think I used one personal day for a ultrasound and half days for other ultarsounds. It was never a problem with my boss.

I don't mind going at all!! In fact, I actually look forward to all of my appts. because every time I go I feel better because I know that's another few weeks where everything has gone well and I don't need to worry.
It's especially hard for me to get to my doctor sometimes because I live in Stony Brook and I teach in Queens.........it's a hike!!! All of my doctors are by my house so I either make my appts. first thing in the morning at like 7am and get to work a little late OR I make weekend appts. I find my doctors are pretty flexible so it's not too bad.
Try not to get annoyed about it, just think of your baby..........every visit, every vile of blood that is drawn, every sono, every everything is worth every single minute of every single dr. visit. I've waited a long time to be pregnant so I'll be the last one who will complain but i understand that you don't want to waste your sick time. See what you can work out with your doctors.

Thanks.
I want whats best for the baby of course but I always am a bit leery of doctor visits.
I've spent so much time at them for other various reasons and my biggest hang up was my Post 9/11 injury and follow ups. For 4 years I had doctor appts and I just dont like them anymore.
Between doctors and therapy I once felt so sick of seeing white walls, waiting rooms and nurses I would get nauseous just thinking of them. Even my dentist now does not allow me to wait in their rooms.. instead I wait in the lobby because I can't stand the waiting in an exam room. I HATE it!
If you need to do something, fine do it. If you need a check, ok I can do that. But to see me, just to see me - that annoys me.
Hopefully I don't sound like a freak when I schedule my entire pregnancy for Monday nights the next time I see them.

I understand your concerns. Just talk to the doctor, I'm sure they have some office hours that are better for your schedule. Lots of luck with the Monday nights!!

I don't think they see you just to see you. Hearing the heartbeat and peeing in a cup are all valid reasons. It is annoying to have to work around a work schedule but hearing the heartbeat every four weeks, then two, then one was so worth it to know everything was fine.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Coming from someone who had her baby 10 weeks early due to a seizure from eclampsia, I am grateful that the dr's saw me so often...I understand that it can be a bit of an inconvenience, but in just a few days something drastic can happen - I know this from experience.

I schedule mine for as late as I can. This way I only have to leave work a little early if at all.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
I used to look forward to my appointments so I could hear the baby's heartbeat. Try to schedule your appointments late in the day so your work is not affected. Trust me, you will be happy that the appointments are close together.

They just take my blood pressure and I give a urine sample. ?? Next time I go its for bloodwork

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Luckily my dr's office had late hours so I didn't have to miss any time from work. The week before I had my c section I was at the dr every day for monitoring. Needless to say I didn't work that last week. It would have been too much as my dr's office is an hour away from my job.

You definitley need night time appts. If I didnt; go at night while I was working than I'd be up a creek too. they dont; offer appt's after 6:00pm?

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Never annoyed about hearing my baby's heart beat and checking up on her... But I understand where you are coming from. With DD#1, I would either schedule the visits after work or during lunch. Now with DD#2 I go every other week...One to a HR the other to my regular OB, so things could be worse for you.

I love going - it makes me feel like they are doing their job (and it took me a while to feel like that about them!!!)
They have days that they work until 7 or so. Try getting some evening appts.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
You're in for a long pregnancy if you're "annoyed" at 8w with the idea of going to the doctor every month
The doctors have better things to do than see you "just to see you". Every appointment exists for a reason. Your blood pressure is taken, hb listened to, weight measured, urine samples taken... And there are actually only 2 appts that I can think of (16 and 24w) where they only do these things.
Babies and children need to see doctors very often as well - I hope you're over your annoyance by the time you get to that point.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
Like other posters said, try to schedule after work hours with your dr as many times as you can. If leaving early is an issue at your job, then try early morning appt's, or taking an extended lunch hour.
Now that I have to go every week, I go during the day, so I leave work in the middle of the day and come back as soon as I can. Trust me, any boss with a heart will understand.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
My doc doesn't do sonos in her office. Thank goodness for Madonna Perinatal. I always manage to get their first appointment and wind up only being late to work by about an hour.
I suppose the appointments month get a little overwhelming. But my doc tries to be flexible with her hours. And usually I can get her last appointment which only requires me to leave about a half hour early.
It really isn't as bad as it could be. And my boss is pretty understandable.

Re: Anyone else a little annoyed at seeing the doc every month?
With the pregnancy I just finished I pretty much was going every week starting at 18 weeks. Between work and my ds it was challenging finding the right time to go. I was lucky, at one of my appointments that was just for monitoring I found out I was in labor with contractions 3to4 mins. apart. After which I was sent to the hospital and had my baby a few hours later. So any of the monitorng they do is just for your and your baby's protection. Trust me insurance companys these days are not going to cover appointments that aren't necassary.
