Another complaint - young assholes drag racing their cars. Saw it on Friday. On LiE. Weaving in between cars. With their loud crap. About 6 of them.

It gets me so angry at how selfish and wreckless people are. Like drinking and driving - If you're caught ONCE doing that shit - your license should be revoked. Permanently. That will stop this. You wanna be a bad ass with your car? Fine. Here's the price, you bad ass. Good luck taking the bus.

And all that loud add on crap to cars should be outlawed. I'm sorry. It's a nuisance and unnecessary. Grow the **** up.

Can u tell I commute? Chat Icon

Ps. I'm extra angry cuz I drove behind a wreckless pick up truck on huge wheels way up off the ground and a ballsack hanging from the plate on the way home tonight. He also had a bumper sticker that read PANtY DrOPpeR.

I wanted so badly to roll up to him at a red light and tell him he must have the smallest you know what in history. And the only ass he gets is probably from a toilet seat. But I wouldn't dare.

What assholees.

On that note .. Someone is gonna flame me .. But I mean this with no disrespect. I had a biker in my family and my friend rides too. On LI, those "watch for motorcycles" signs annoy the shit out of me. Because most times, people on motorcycles seem to feel entitled. Unless I'm not informed - but if I am, correct me. .. But yesterday I was on 347. Two lanes. Some biker cut in front of me from the right. Like he was behind me and came up on my right and sharply cut in front of me.

Is that legal?

I also hate the times you're in traffic and moving slowly up or maybe even want to change lanes, and up comes a motorcycle riding between the left and right lines in the middle. Is that legal?

I ask seriously.

It's always the motorcycles that are the Kawasaki ones. It's rarely the old school biker - those seem to obey the rules.

And then those signs... Watch for bikers. No shit. But maybe they need to cut the crap out.

When they go between 2 lanes of traffic, it's called lane splitting and it is not legal but of course many do it... But I will tell you why some do it and it's actually very good reasoning... There are many car drivers who do not pay close enough attention in stop and go traffic (look at your cell phone more, etc) and motorcycles can get rear-ended... Quite a different outcome iil a bike is rear-ended as opposed to a car. I personally was rear-ended while sitting at a red light in my car... Had I been on my husbands motorcycle, we would have been hurt.

I don't condone a lot of the idiotic behavior of those that ride on sports bikes, but figured I'd give the flip side of the coin for those that truly are curious about the lane splitting. HTH

I agree with the fact there is a reason many times why people ride the way they do.

I live in a biker family. I don't know how many times I get a call that someone was hurt because of the car...not because of the way they ride. My husband ended up on the trunk of a car not because of him ut because people drive like asshats!!!

I friend was killed this weekend by a car because he ran a light.

I also know people that were on the ride yesterday. And there is way more to the story from what I have heard and the driver of the SUV was not innocent in it all.

That was so disturbing. I can't believe it took cops that long to get there. That could have happened to anyone. It's amazing how "tough" these guys become when they're in the hundreds and they are ganging up on a small family. This makes me beyond angry. So disgusted.

mazz - thank you for explaining the lane splitting. that makes sense, although it does sound risky (like if car in the right line decides to move over to left lane quickly or what have you.) but thank you for taking the time to explain! :)

No problem... I can see how it could be risky but the more responsible riders will lane split at a very low speed... And then you have the ones who blow by you bc they feel they are cool and entitled... Chat Icon

low speed never bothered me - it's the zipping by that is scary! especially when traffic starts moving again

Maybe not, but that response was not justified at all. They could have caused that car to crash and the man's wife and baby did nothing wrong but might have been hurt.

I watched the video and found it really unnerving. But I was surprised that one of the bikers got the car's door open- I never drive without locking my doors. It's something I don't even think about.

Nothing that SUV driver may have done can justify what happened. Nothing. Those bikers seem to be of great character and should def. be trusted on their word!

ETA: Where are all of the license plates for the bikers?

I just saw this posted in one of the news stories.

Illegal bikes on the road causing nothing but chaos. They were in Time Square causing problems before this happened.

Sorry. But that biker stopped short in front of the truck so he couldn't go anywhere. And some of the guys got off their bikes to confront him. Nothing good could come of that. It was road rage x 100. Or however many bikers there were. Seemed like a 100!

Sickening!

ETS: according to Ray Kelly. Nobody was killed. The guy received a broken leg. He should thank god he wasn't killed,

I just can't fathom what would warrant this kind of behavior on public streets with a baby and wife in the car. I'm really racking my brain to think of what scenario would warrant this and unless this man is a rapist or murderer...I just don't get it. Even then...there is a way to handle things and a gang of what looked like well over 100 bikers acting this way in broad daylight isn't it. this isn't gangs of new york here...it's civilization...with people and children and families and innocent bystanders.

the video is just really upsetting to watch.

Seriously? Give me a break!!!!

Innocent or not the way they acted and what they did is just disgusting on all levels. Call the cops if there is a problem, don't take matters into your own hands and act like a bunch of animals.

My GOD what that poor child saw happen to her father because of POS thugs who have no respect for anyone but their scum bag selves.

I could care less what the other side of the story is...

I am so horrified by what i just saw. I can't imagine experiencing it. Whst if the driver was the mother? Would they have slashed her face? I'm sorry but the city shouldn't allow this yearly ride to happen again. I also don't understand how the police weren't around for this.

People always seem to forget that car > bike, and a car can be a formidable weapon if one has the resolve to use it as such. If I am driving along and a pack of bikers surrounds me and intentionally causes a collision, then I am not stopping for them. Let the cops come arrest me for failing to stop. I want the cops to come. If they want to attack my car (especially with my family inside), then you can bet I'd be knocking them down like bowling pins.

1. The guy never should have stopped.
2. Once stopped, he was correct to drive off as he did.
3. He should have locked his *****' door.
4. If a pack of bikers is pursuing, he should not have worried about traffic laws. Red light? So what? Unless someone is coming, you drive through it. Stop sign? Same thing.
5. Stopped by traffic and surrounded? Your car goes in more than one direction, and unless and until it is disabled by mechanical failure, it should continue moving until you reach a safe place. A police station might be the place to go.
6. Got On Star? . Hit the little button and tell the operator that a pack of bikers is chasing you and you would appreciate it if they monitored your location and dispatched the police.

IMHO, the SUV driver lacked street smarts in a big way.

Lane splitting is illegal. Same as texting while driving, or not stopping at stop signs. Everyone can come up with a justification for doing something, that doesn't mean that their reasoning, or their actions are right.

I've never seen anyone slowly lane split. I've seen people blast through traffic, I've seen people come up so that they can beat my car after a red light turns green. I've seen them blast up the shoulder to beat traffic, too. None of these are justifiable, none of these are remotely legal.

As for the video, I haven't watched it because I have a strong feeling that it would ruin my day. But, I don't see how ANYONE could say that the actions as described here could be remotely justified. Even if the driver did hit and kill one of their friends, as someone posted was alleged at some point, shouldn't the bikers have been more concerned about their friend who just died?! Write down the license plate number, snap a photo on your phone. Chasing someone down the street, pulling him out of his car, and beating him in front of his wife and child? No.

So much this. If you are going to imply something about the SUV driver, why don't you come out and tell us what he did that was so horrible to justify what happened?

They just showed a story about this on the news. It's so clear that the biker who stopped that got rear ended by the SUV did that on purpose. As he slowed, he turned around to look at the SUV.

Hopefully this incident will raise awareness of the kind of behavior we see on the roads and what can happen when it goes unchecked and infects a mob. We have a problem on our roads that needs to be dealt with.
