People always seem to forget that car > bike, and a car can be a formidable weapon if one has the resolve to use it as such. If I am driving along and a pack of bikers surrounds me and intentionally causes a collision, then I am not stopping for them. Let the cops come arrest me for failing to stop. I want the cops to come. If they want to attack my car (especially with my family inside), then you can bet I'd be knocking them down like bowling pins.
1. The guy never should have stopped. 2. Once stopped, he was correct to drive off as he did. 3. He should have locked his *****' door. 4. If a pack of bikers is pursuing, he should not have worried about traffic laws. Red light? So what? Unless someone is coming, you drive through it. Stop sign? Same thing. 5. Stopped by traffic and surrounded? Your car goes in more than one direction, and unless and until it is disabled by mechanical failure, it should continue moving until you reach a safe place. A police station might be the place to go. 6. Got On Star? . Hit the little button and tell the operator that a pack of bikers is chasing you and you would appreciate it if they monitored your location and dispatched the police.
IMHO, the SUV driver lacked street smarts in a big way.

I don't think it's really fair to say he lacked street smarts in a big way. When something like this happens, it is very easy to say how we would react from the outside, but in the moment I bet none of us would be thinking totally clearly... do we know that he even had on star?
The story on the news said that because his tires were slashed he couldn't really do very much very quickly, and at the point when his window was broken he couldn't go anywhere because of other cars around him.

I read they slashed his tire right after the biker caused him to bump. I think the baby was 5 months old? Poor guy was probably terrified for his baby

I can't get this story out of my head; I am outraged. The cops/legislature really need to pick up on what's happening here and address this kind of behavior. We've all seen it--it just hasn't escalated to this point/been taped.
This incident really needs to trigger awareness and change.

Re: So crazy- biker gang chase in NYC
I saw this on the news this am and it was disgusting! When the one guy smashed the window another guy started hitting the backseat window. It could have broken all over that baby.
If this was me I would have tried to run them all over!
There is no excuse for this type of behavior and I don't understand why 911 wasn't called.

I agree we don't know he had on star and his tires were slashed AND he thought he was doing the right thing by stopping after he had hit someone but then realized he was in danger. The one thing that gets me is WHY WASN'T LOCKING HIS DOORS A TOP PRIORITY?? It seems like basic instinct that if you feel a threat, you lock your doors. Even if he was panicked...the wife was also there to help make quick decisions. locking the doors ad honking to get attention or get the cars to move should have been an easy call.
all in all he did the right thing in trying to evade the situation though. I just don't get how cops didn't get there for that long and they were able to basically OWN that long stretch unnoticed in broad daylight...even after ray kelly said that police were "monitoring the event". If they were "monitoring the event" then how did this many motorcyclists get away with driving all through NYC with no license plates? commissioner Kelly should be embarrassed bc this doesn't look good on our law enforcement.

She was older. They are saying 2-5. But here is a picture from the scene.

I will probably get flamed, oh well. I can not stand most of the bikers on those cr*tch rockets! They have no regards for others on the road or the law. I have been cut off tons of times and seen many near misses
Watching to video, the guy in the RR probably had issue with them (maybe they cut him off and he antagonized them, we don't know but still) Those motorcycles are super fast there was no reason the one that slowed down in front of the RR should have done that. Look how fast all the others caught up to the driver when he had a little lead over them when he first broke away from this gang. It was totally done on purpose by the bikers
What a bunch of animals.

Anyone who defends these bikers is a big a POS as they are. It is NEVER appropriate to resort to violence, what type of animal does or defends that behavior?!

Re: So crazy- biker gang chase in NYC
My cousin was in her car with her two little kids and was in the middle of this group of motorcyclists. She actually called the police because she said they were driving like maniacs, stopping short, swerving and acting like morons. She said she almost hit one and said she is sick to her stomach over this. These guys are also liars - they said to the NY times that noone got violent - there are pictures of them dragging this guy out of the car and attacking him

He had to stop b/c of traffic and also they slashed his tires so he could only drive a certain distance. I would not blame him at all. He did the best that he could. he also called the poilce.

I agree. I can't tell you how many times I've been cut off by these "bikers" while driving down the FDR and how many times I've seen them flying up residential streets making tons of noise as if anyone really gave a tiny rats asss who they were.
As a matter of fact the other day there was a group of them on my block stopped at a red light taunting a cab driver. And hey usually I'm not the one to defend the cab drivers cuz they suck as drivers but really come on it was like 5 motorcycles against 1 cab driver???? Really??
I for one second don't blame the guy in the RR at all I would have done the same thing he did. He was fleeing for his safety and that of his family.
All I kept thinking of was how the glass could have shattered all over that baby and how scared that poor baby must have been.

I feel like this whole story is out of a movie. That biker intentionally stopped short. I cannot imagine the fear that the wife was going through as she had her baby with her and watched her husband get beat after a 6++ minute car chase of what seemed like 30+ bikers. Disgusting.

glad they video taped it all so they could document their behavior for the police
ETA: Even if he almost hit someone or hit someone...you get the plate & call the cops and write a statement for police..you don't start driving like maniacs..stop traffic on a highway by surrounding the car creating a major danger or start beating on the car.
Exactly this!! The whole thing is digusting. I would fear for my families life too if I was being chased. I'm not taking any sides but I have noticed that some motorcyclist drive very aggresive and normally cut off people. In any event, if it was a hit and run they should have called the cops instead of taking matters into their own hands.

The bikers were likely diabetic and had low blood sugar, hence the irrational behavior. Lets give them a break.

So crazy- biker gang chase in NYC
This is so scary and why I always tell DH to ignore crazy drivers. No matter what the other side of the story and what the range rover may or have may not done there is no excuse for how that pack of bikers acted. They were reckless and violent and deserve to be in jail and have their licenses revoked. What about all the other people on the road they were endangering when chasing him like a maniac??!! Glad they recorded their own stupidity.
