So here is my flying plan with 2 kids...what do you think?
DH and I have planned a trip to Disney with our 4 1/2 year old DD and 18 month old DS. At the airport I plan to carry DS on my back with the Ergo. I will have DD in a car seat in the GO GO Kidz thing (she is very petite). Once we get on the plane DS will go into the car seat and DD will sit in a regular seat. When we get to FL we will rent one more car seat for DD.
Does this sound like a good plan?
TIA +

I never hear good stories about renting carseats. They tend to not have directions and there's no guarantee there will be one available. We are planning on going to FL with our two boys ina few months. The baby will still be in the infant carrier and we will get a small booster seat for DS.

are you planning on doing a lot of driving? I am going down with a 3 yr old and a 1.75 yr old and I am not bringing car seats...I will be just using the Disney transportation the whole time! I didn't bring any to Aruba when we went this past dec and I dont know how with all the other stuff we would have managed them! I dread the first trip that we DO need them!

We are staying with family in Orlando so we will be using the car a lot.

What if you reserve the car seat in advance? Do they guarantee that it will be there? I would consider a booster seat but DD is very tiny...so I'm not quite comfortable with that yet.

From what I understand, even with a reservation, there's no guarantee. I would "assume" in a place like Florida that they would have a lot of carseats, but I guess you never know. I think I would be more confident in a guarenteed booster seat then in a chance of getting a carseat. Plus you don't know if the seat has been in a fender bender, is clean, etc... Since you're visiting family, is there any way you can ship a carseat down and have them meet you at the airport?

Hmmm...not sure. Will have to ask about that.
Thanks

I wonder...has anyone attempted to take 2 car seats through the airport and onto the plane?
I am nervous about checking a car seat but then also nervous about renting one.

I've heard the same, that even if you make a reservation, you aren't guarnteed one.
And I know my SIL had an issue with a carseat she rented
You could check the other carseat, thats what we always do

For the price you will pay to rent a car seat, I would go to Walmart or somewhere and buy a cheap car seat. (Money wise cheap). You can leave it with your family for future use...

The only issue with that is that you have to get from the airport to Wal Mart to buy it

Re: So here is my flying plan with 2 kids...what do you think?
I just got back from Florida and checked 2 carseats. I bought 2 carseat bags from Babies R Us and the seats did fine. I wanted to have my own seats for the rental car.
We were hauling a lot of stuff. I had my 11-month old in a sling and pushed the diaper bag and a back pack in the stroller (baby refused to go into the stroller). I was also pulling one carseat (the bag has wheels). My 3-year old walked next to us and pulled his tiny suit case and DH had one carseat on his back (it has straps that can also go over the back) and he was pulling a small suit case and a large suitcase with another duffle bag over it. It was a lot, but once we checked everything we just had the kids, the stroller and the carry-ons, so it wasn't that bad.
ETA: You could just grab one carseat bag ($30, I think) and check the one seat.

Re: So here is my flying plan with 2 kids...what do you think?
The only time we rented a car seat was when DD was a lap baby on the plane and granted, it was on an island but I was so nmervous everytime we used it bc it was so old and gross. Never did that again. Another time I met DH in Orlando and took a car service to the hotel since we were using disney buses the entire trip and they only had a booster for a 14 month old!!!! I say bring your own seat and check it. I've checked strollers before and they come out fine. I would MUCH rather have my own safe, clean seat.
